what "supplement" works best for you?

alright, i know about all the statements about "not using herbs or vitamins" to achieve lucidity, and am not promoting anything. i just want to get a feel for what gives people the best results.

i know B6 works, but im not sure what the dosage should be for dreaming. valarian root keeps me awake...... and i know ginkgo biloba makes dreams more vivid (i have tried it).

      thoughts?

What works best for me is an occasional combination of candied ginger, B vitamin complex, and a bit of mugwart mixed with a vanilla wax tart that I melt with my candle warmer while I sleep.

Oh, another thing, I seem to have more lucid dreams when I go to bed completely exhausted and sleep on my back rather than on my side like I prefer.

i've tried melatonin (in 3 and 6 mg dosages). tried B6 in various doses. neither seemed to help me personally.

actually, a moderate amount of beer seems to be the only 'supplement' which increases my chances of becoming lucid.

      B6

When i found out we had vitamins (b6 especially) at my house I was estatic (to my parents they just thought "Oh he wants to be healthy " lol).

I notice that when i take vitamins and when I get good sleep (8-9 hours), I have an easier time remembering and having vivid dreams. In fact last week i had my first lucid, I looked up at my school clock and my mind just said " Change it ". So I did thinking nothing of it, but when it changed it was like being hit in the face, " IM DREAMING! "

Lucid dreaming is such a tauntingly simple thing to attain...

As is universally accepted, B vitamins seem to work well. I am still having a great deal of trouble becoming lucid in my dreams, but my dream recall rate has increased dramatically since I started taking them. Additionally, I have discovered that fish oil seems to have some very positive effects. I'm not sure, but I believe it has to do with the Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly associated with enhanced brain development in infants. As fish has long been considered a "brain food," I can only assume that it is beneficial for all neuro-processes, including dreaming.

However, please understand that I'm not a very healthy person. I eat fast food at least once a day as I work third shift and such is all that is available to me that late at night. I don't exercise. I rarely eat vegetables. I'm overweight. Until recently, I frequently hang around smokers. I spend a great deal of time in front of a computer screen...inactive. Perhaps the vitamins I take are keeping me in the norm rather than actually improving anything. This would seem to imply that those who frown upon taking supplements to enhance their dreaming are right and one does in fact require nothing extra to experience LD.

How much do you take and at what time? Did it start working the 1st nite or did it have to build up in your system over time?

      Sleeping in

Here is what I have to say about supplements and lucid dreams:

B6 vitamins -> have a minor effect. Natural B6 is better, but not much.
Melatonin -> affects your sleep, but at the wrong time will give paranoia.
Other sleep altering items -> Ginko, ginger, nutmeg, paprika, StJohn'sWart, illegal substances, mood-altering prescriptions all affect mood. Mood affects stress. Stress affects sleep. Sleep affects mood. All things have to be in flow for any of these to affect you in an expected way.

One thing I will say, 95% of the time I have dream awareness if not full lucidity is sleeping past dawn. It is a rare occurrance but my really only strong experiences. I have tried a method of brain entrainment this week as well, which is basically using sounds to affect brainwaves. I'll tell you this much. I have been getting to sleep later than normal and waking up way more refreshed than normal. No lucid dreams though, but these sounds are not specific for lucid dreams. There are some though, which I will try later.

Cod liver oil for the win.
guess it doesnt really improve lucidity but it makes dreams much more vivid and detailed making it easier to realise your dreaming...so yeah...i guess it does help with becoming lucid.
(take capsules rather than the liquid , the liquid form tastes horrible)

      I've heard that one before.

Cod liver activates metabolism which could affect dreams. Or it just upsets your stomach cause of the flavor. I'll have to try once or twice.
