WILDs into any type of sleep?

I was wondering if anyone has had any success in entering a WILD when you normally go to sleep in the evening, as opposed to waking up 5-6 hours afterwards and going back to sleep or taking a nap. If there are any references on the internet or threads on this site you could link to that would be great. I tried looking and searching on this site but nothing relevant has been coming up and there's a lot of material to sift through here.

im deff not a expert but i would think not. When you WILD ur falling alseep w/ ur body awake...if you dont fall into REM your just falling into deep sleep.

->More experianced ppl will give you more respectable anwers though good luck

i attempted it once, i basically laid there completely still for like 2 hours and nothing happened. I did however enter a fairly deep state of meditation, but then i decided to quit and get up for a bit.

I think that in order for it to work, u would have to be awake through all the stages of sleep before REM and simply wait for it, which is a REALLY LONG wait, lol. But if u can manage to practically meditate through it without losing awareness you should be able to make it. Hell if you can make it through you might see something interesting before reaching REM.

Even then itd be much easier to sleep normally for 5-6 hours first, cuz then u don't have to wait it out =P

i suspect it is possible at any time, albeit more difficult when you're not that tired. i have experienced all stages of hypnagogia whenever i try to WILD at random times throughout the day...that's not to say i have succeeded in the WILD attempt, though. i have heard anecdotes about WILDing at the beginning of the sleep cycle.

thanks, guys. I guess I'll try and focus on MILD more as I go to sleep, and save everything else for my mid-night wakings.

If you are interested in following up on the idea, the Dream Yoga thing is about maintaining consciousness 24/7. That should include all the sleep stages.

It is more of a meditative/visualization discipline than WILD though... and presupposes mastery of a lot of other disciplines. But if you are interested, that's a direction to look in.

      onemoretime,
Although i dont know the mechanics of it i know its definitely possible to WILD on a night when you first lie down to sleep. Astral projection proves its possible to get otherworldly experiences before sleep and if you share the same mindset as me, you may believe astral projection and lucid dreams have a good chance of being the same phenomena. If this is the case i urge you to read up as much as you can on astral projection aswell because astral projection is primarily about achieving these experiences before sleep.

Remember you can take as much as you want from a subject, it doesn't mean you have to believe the entire thing.

One of the most inspiring subjects ive ever had the pleasure to read and be a part of is that of astral phasing. Methods to WILD and to phase are very similar (possibly because they share the same goal) but ive witnessed many people pick up and become very proficient at phasing. I think the reason for this is that while trying to WILD many dreamers become dismayed due to a lack of progression or realisation of the amount of practice its going to take, they then opt for easier methods such as MILD. Astral projectors and phasers usually dont have this luxury and stick with the methods until they become adept at them.

An excellent resource for phasing methods is astralpulse.com, search for posts by frank (The phasing god!)
For methods look up "Mental rundowns" and "The noticing excercise", the good thing about phasing is that even if your unsuccessful during practice you still have alot of fun and usually gain skill points on your visualisation meter during the process.

      Hope this helps,

      >RooJ.

      rooj,

hey thanks for the info, I checked out the site, and while I'm not so hot about astral projection or OBEs, I think there's definitely some advice I could pick up in terms of techniques or ideas for lucid dream induction. Or even for stuff to do during lucid dreams. I've got to try the playing card experiment. Though I have to say, on that one stickied post in the forum, about the playing card experiment, the second example's writer was getting pretty excited about seeing the same suit. The first case, where the other was right on about which card, that's a little more impressive, since it's a little less likely, but guessing suits is just a 1 in 4 chance.

      Thanks for the help.

I was able to do this once, although it didn't last very long. I started getting the tingley feeling all over my body and felt my body starting to float. Before I knew it, I woke up and couldn't get lucid again..
