      SDILD-Sleep Deprivation Induced Lucid Dream

Here the thing. It is a variation of wake back to bed except it doesn't involve waking in the middle of the night... just staying up till then.

      Steps:

      1. Stay up till you are really tired and are on the verge of falling asleep.
      2. Get in the lucid dreaming state of mind.
      3. Close your eyes and tell yourself you will be in a dream in a few seconds.
      4. Constantly repeat "I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming!"
      5. With a bit of practice, you will be a better lucid dreamer!

      Disclaimer:

Don't use this technique often. Try to avoid it unless you are staying up late anyway. It could be hazardous to your health.

Others have posted about this. I can see how it works sometimes. However, other times, one goes into a deep state of sleep and does not remember many, if any, dreams at all that night.

sleep deprivation is how I had my first experiences with sleep paralysis - that I would hear sounds instead of seeing imagry. before i knew about htis stuff i didn't know what the hell was happening to me. i thought i was losing my mind! Now that I TRY to enter SP I can't!

Yeah I'm staying up 2 days before a long-long plane ride. If I can LD the entire plane ride, that would be GREAT!

Lucidity in this case would simply be a product of enhanced vividness due to REM rebound. Think about it. You're not going to have a regular sleep cycle if you're without NREM sleep for an extended period of time. So, your body/mind makes room for a lot of NREM when you do eventually go to sleep and therefore the REM periods are pushed back into a single and very vivid REM period later in your sleep cycle.

This happens with alcohol as well.

Hmm, I guess that sleep deprivation causes a larger amount of something (natural melatonin? dunno) to shoot into your brain, which i assume would help for more vivid dreams. Don't really know, though.

I always experienced, more tired, deep sleep, less REM and recall.
