After awhile of just relaxing for probably atleast 20 minutes, my body feels numb then it goes into some kind of weird state. I start breathing faster/harder (not on my freewill) and my eyes make quick movements under the eyelids (fluttering i guess could describe it) the eye movements are constant then I just relax again and go back to normal... What is this?

I like it because it shows me that I am getting somewhere as opposed to sitting there and waiting for nothing.

Needless to say after that happened I lyed there a long time with nothing happening so I just gave up and went to sleep.

Totally normal. Try to count, or something, to take your mind of the eye movements. The eye movements are just you going into a deeper sleep... not sure if it's REM, it might be an earlier stage where you get slower eye movements. It's totally normal, anyway, and all you need to do is find some way to not get distracted by it.

yep thats right u can wild when u first go to bed, though if u think ur ready to try LDing youd be better off with MILD and reality checks. WILD is harder to do and should be saved till uve had a couple LD's

That's debatable. I've not had much success with WILD at all, so I can't really speak from experience. A few people have reported success with WILD when first going to bed, but based on what I've heard, it's far, far more likely to succeed after a WBTB.

This is true due to the heavy first couple of REM periods / deep sleep, later on in the morning you'll be more alert to the visuals with WILD.
