I have to constantly change my methods to keep having lucids. Yesterday I tried a new thing. I took a bandanna and put sassafras scent on it (I just happened to have some of the oil handy; nothing special about that particular scent as far as I know.) I kept the cloth with me and smelled it periodically (just a few times, I kept forgetting about it) and whenever I smelled it, I did an RC and thought about dreaming. Then when I inevitably woke up about 2:00 AM, I put the cloth on my pillow so I could smell it. I didn't want to keep it on my pillow all night, because I thought I would just get acclimated to it. I wanted to save it for a good REM time. I then had a lucid, not a great one, but it did work.

(Summary of lucid dream: I woke up in a strange bed that had like mesquito netting on it; I became lucid, but I fell off the bed and got trapped between the wall and the mattress and I was tangled in the netting. I tried to relax and get out of the situation without losing lucidity, but I failed.)

Anyway, I am going to try this for a while and see what happens.

You know I thought I had read about it somewhere, but I couldn't remember where (duh).

An automatic scent-spraying thing at certain times would be good, but I guess the way I did it works since I always wake up during the night.

Have you gotten it to work consistently? Have you experimented with different scents. I don't imagine that would matter, just anything you will notice should work.

It didn't work for me last night, but it did make me dream about looking at DV, so I guess that was my failure rather than the method.

I have hopes for this method.

What are some good smells/things for this technique? I thought about flowers, but they're messy. So is food. Any suggestions?

Yeah, perfume fades but the oil stays on there indefinitely; I put it on a bandanna and put it under my pillow, and then pull it out later in the night. You could use oil that is for cooking, like the sassafras I had, or the other kind that is for perfume or light bulbs or whatever. I was thinking about vanilla extract and I might try that. It is alcohol based tho so it will probably fade.

PS: I had an LD the other night; actually I attributed it to chocolate but I had my scent-cloth too...maybe it was the combination I don't know.
