Well I am very grateful that I have started having lucid dreams. So far I have had three, into my third month of trying, and it seems great!

There is one problem, which I believe everyone has heard of: It's keeping the lucid dream stable, so you don't wake up from them. Now I know there is spinning, rubbing hands and all that stuff. But the thing is, I don't even realise the dream is fading - it happens too quickly, and I have very little time to do any methods. All together, I've probably had about thirty seconds of lucidity.

Another thing, my last two lucids had a false awakening. They're hilarious, and annoying...

So what can I do? Improve confidence? Are there methods to get less emotional and excited during lucids? Maybe I'm too worried...

      Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      practice practice practice!!

every little lucid you have adds to your experience. Once you get the feeling of being lucid, it doesn't feel as much of a shock. It is still very exciting, but your excitement becomes tolerable. It took me three lucid dreams to finally get one where I don't wake up upon reaching lucidity. Just hang in there and also remember: don't try too hard to stay in the dream either, this will also wake yourself up!

      good luck!!

The most awesome most lucid dream I ever had was one where I looked at the palms of my hands. Actually I did this because I had woken up in my bed - a false awakening - and I wanted to see if I was suffering from sleep paralysis, because I knew it was a false awakening. I looked at my palms to see if I could move, and this seemed to give me a bolt of energy that made me "float" in the dream. It also made me feel ecstatic. Pure happiness. Without thinking twice, I flew up to my window, opened it, and flew out. I spent a lot of time enjoying the city from above.

As far as I know, the way to remain lucid is by achieving a highly lucid dream in the first place. This can be done through practice and methods such as looking at your palms. I don't know what it is about palms, but it's an age old method apparently. And I mean no mystical mumbo-jumbo by it. Just happened to work for me, before I even knew it was a method.

my dreams fade too quick for me to do much too but it isnt because i get overly excited, those days are over for me. its cause my rem is over. Your problem seems that you get too excited. I dont know any methods besides getting some more lds under your belt. eventuly you will get used to it and your lds will get longer. and that is where the fun really starts

When I become lucid, I try to stabilize the dream right off the bat, instead of jumping right in and doing stuff. I'll take a couple breaths and lean up against a wall. Sometimes while I'm doing that, I'll study my hands and tell myself to increase awareness. Once you feel that the dream is adequately stabilized, you can proceed with the LD activity of your choice!

I'll let you know how my next lucid goes, hopefully I will remember to stabilise.
