It seems to be consensus that when we are thinking to ourselves (autosuggestion), "I" is always used. But in cases like making a self-hypnosis tape or subliminal recording, we become the passive listener to our own voices. Would it make more sense to use "you" instead of "I"? |

Me too. But I'm a bit curious. You see, when a hypnotist tries to hypnotize us, they say "you". "You are feeling drowsy, you are going down the stairs, you see......" and so on. When we record the self-hypnosis script, we are taking the role of the hypnotist. When we listen back to the recording, we are listening to someone (ourselves in this case) who tell us what to do. If the pronoun is "I", can our subconscious relate to and respond to that? It really puzzles me. |

I don't think it really matters whichever way if you're already consciously aware the suggestions are directed towards yourself. |

Thanks so much for all your opinions, it's getting clearer now. I especially like the "Billy, you..." approach. Sometimes I think in this way to myself too. Thanks again everyone. |
