The original WBTB concept leverages the fact that REM cycles lengthen as the night goes on. When you wake up afgter 5-6 hours, stay up for a while and go back to bed, there's a good likelihood that you'll hit REM very quickly upon falling asleep. This is beneficial as you just left the conscious world and probably have some "concious energy" still active in your mind. Hence it's easier to have a DILD. |
