      A Strange Lucid Dream

First of all, hello to everybody here on the forums. Hope to improve my lucidity here. Been browsing around, nice to see that there is no flaming or spam here.

Anyway, I've been trying to get lucidity for a while. I didn't actually succeed until this morning (on accident.) I woke up early today (slept 7 hours) and stood up, just walking around and taping things to the wall for about 20 minutes. Afterwards, I went back to my bed and lay there for about an hour or so before dozing off to sleep in a few seconds after closing my eyes. I was half-awake, half-conscious for the 10 seconds or so the dream lasted. I was fully aware of the very slight movement my body made in response to my motions in the dream. I actually noted a small tingling in my face in RL from a water splash in my face in the dream. But then, I just woke up for no reason.

Just a second or two afterwards, I realized that I had just had a lucid dream, and got up to start the day. This matches the description of NILD, but I haven't done enough real research to be sure. I'm hoping I can try this again next weekend. Can anybody give me any tips to increase my chances? Thx.

      N00bDreamerDude welcome to DreamViews!
      What is NILD?
This is an interesting experience you describe, where you are dreaming yet aware of your real body. Thats quite unusual, in most lucid dreams you have no awareness of you real body, but are fully immersed in the dream.
Good luck on you nightly adventures!

NILD, you mean Nap Induced Lucid Dream?

It does match the discription...But it is still a little strange that you were aware of your real body.

My advice is if you want to try it again... do the same routine you did to induce it this time. I'm not entirely sure but who knows? Good luck.

Vivid, it happens sometimes. I was frightened once when lucid because the nose RC told me I wasn't dreaming, when I knew I was! I figured out later that my nose was stuffy and I was breathing through my mouth. I've also discovered what position I'm sleeping in. Pretty cool beans, if you ask me.

Noobdreamer, welcome to Dreamviews! This is one of the nicest and most mature forums I've joined. I hope you'll agree! Anyway, here's a few hints on increasing lucid dream duration: Rub your hands. It's a well-known trick that increases vividness and stability within the dream. If you feel the dream fading beforehand, try grabbing onto something in the dream. That works for me sometimes, but isn't as reliable as rubbing my hands. Yet another method is to feel things, and concentrate on the feeling. This method makes my dreams fade, so for me, it isn't very reliable (though others swear by it).

Sometimes dreams end with no warning. This may be caused by an outside stimulus, such as an alarm clock, a voice, or a feeling (like my cat batting at my nose so that I'll wake up and feed her!).

howdy all! it's been a loooong time since i've used this site and i forgot my old user name...

      aaaanyway

i've had lots of these "NILD"s. they are really, really strange; well, at least my encounters with them. They usually happen just as i'm falling asleep to take a nap, and other times any time throughout the nap. it is in these that you can be aware of both your real body and your in-dream body.

i personally find myself having very limited control over my in dream body in these states. any attempt to move my arms, legs, head, sometimes even my eyes is very, very difficult to do. they are satisfying in their own way though. i also often find myself on the couch or bed that i'm napping on. my most recent one found me on my couch. i cleary knew i was dreaming, but at the same time was aware of my real surroundings. i could barely move anything, as stated, but i knew where i was, and i was clearly aware my mother was in the room at one point. these dreams are often very "fragile" to me. trying to do too much will easily wake me up, so i usually just let them fade away. however, for the short amount of time that things are as i described, it is a fairly neat feeling.

noob dreamer, i am fairly sure this is what you're experiencing. however, i've never had this happen during a full nights sleep, only during a nap that lasts no longer than 3 hours.

perhaps your problem is that you're getting too much sleep before going back to sleep. i find that when i get close to 8 hours of sleep and then try to go back to sleep, neither my mind nor my body are tired enough to get into a deep sleep, and then you get these fragile dreams that are hard to do anything with. try waking up a little sooner and then going back to bed.

      i hope this helped some
