well if the goal is trying you could go with both and i do know that the first rem cycle is as short as ten mintues but i guess for a begginer that would be long enough to just experience it

the goal isnt waking you up..when a person is unconcious or sleeping that doesnt nesscerlly mean ur other senses arent working..ur ears subconciouslly either records things or just gets it in your dream..its the minds way of keeping you sleeping as long as possible to heal and repair the body while ur safe and sound in ur bed..even the nose works activelly as well by getting smell into ur dream if theres even something powerful enough to be noticed by ur bodies senses..okay ill shut my pie hole now
