How often do you have to do reality checks until you actually become lucid?

      Reply if you know.

Depends on the person. I got a lucid after two days of doing them (since I stopped LD practice for 3 years prior.) I think some of it depends on how often you RC and how in-depth you do them. You've gotta catch the attention of the subconscious.

I don't depend on RC alone though. Try to accompany your RC with WBTB (getting up after 6 hours and going back to sleep.)

So is WBTB the same as MILD or are they different?

WBTB is just waking up, then going "back to bed". MILD has the added steps of picturing yourself in a dream and citing "I will know I am dreaming." Also with MILD you need to stay up for quite a bit of time after waking up. (To record dream, etc). when I say it I mean just waking up then going right back to sleep.

So WBTB is waking up after 6 hours and going straight to sleep?

Sorry, my bad. the official WBTB is--

      1) Sleep for 5-6 hours.

      2) Wake up and GET OUT OF BED.

      3) Read lucid dreaming articles online or watch a dream related movie for 30-60 minutes.

      4) Go back to bed using one of the following techniques.

I'm suggesting you use this on top of your reality checks, but not necessarily staying up for 30-60 minutes. Instead I wake up every hour after 6 hours and go immediately back to sleep(sometimes I scribble dream notes to remember), thus I remember a ton more dreams than I would otherwise. This, accompanied with reality checks, makes DILD very likely in a given night while not requiring you to lose much sleep. It also helps with recall.

This is just a suggestion because it helped me. Either way, keep up with your reality checks!
