So Im Starting to get Frustrated

Basically, I can go into sleep paralysis at will. Ive even done it in the car once. Im sure that it is sleep paralysis becuase all of the sudden my limbs get really heavy and then they go numb. I cant feel my arms even though they are laying on top of eachother, its like they are just floating there. I can go into this stage seriously after like twenty-seconds to five minutes. Even if I just lay down for the first time that night. Problem is, after i get to that stage, I basically just sit there, unable to feel anything and think, "K...what now?" I usually count backwards from 100, I start to feel tired, and dizzy, but still nothing happens. I just remain numb. I tried it today for like an hour, and I never got past the SP. What do I need to do??

      to the forum!
It's not easy to get into a LD from SP, if you haven't already slept for a while. Try WBTB, and since you're good at getting into SP at will, you should be on your way in no time
Basically, your body goes through several stages of sleep before getting to REM sleep (where dreams occur). The first REM periods start 1-2 hours into sleep (I'm pretty sure that's the number). But the longest, best quality ones are after 5-6 hours, which is why WBTB is so helpful. WBTB means you wake yourself up for a few minutes during these longer REM periods, so that when you go back to sleep, you go pretty much directly back into REM.
I hope this helps you. Pretty soon you'll be PMing an admin and asking for a name change to Ialreadycanld

Thanks. What is WBTB though? I know it has something to do with sleeping first, but what does the acronym actually mean?

      Wake-Back-To-Bed. There's a tutorial about it... here.

Kay. Thanks. Ill try it tonight. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to experience it though. It sounds amazing. Sadly, I've been trying for like a month and still no LD.

It took me almost two months. But now I'm having about 1-2 a month, steadily increasing. Good luck tonight
One thing... trying too hard can kill your attempts. If in a week or two, you still haven't had one, try stopping your attempts for a few days. Wanting it too much can be counter productive.

Are you RCing? That's an easy way to become lucid, I've had several LDs all from DILDs (RCing in a dream).

When do you go to sleep? Usually between 4 and 6 hours is key for inducing lucids (research has been done to get that number). Unless you go to bed between 8-10pm, 2am might not be the best time to WBTB.

Ill probably be sleeping at like 11-12ish. But I am going to wake up at like 5:30 so I don't want to wake up too close to that time.

      Ouch - 5:30
Do you get more sleep on the weekends? It's going to be harder to LD with only 5-6 hours of sleep every night, since the best REM periods happen during and after that time. Don't let that discourage you though, there are still plenty of REM periods before that time

I get close to 12 hours on the weekends. But I seriously want to try tonight though either way. Who knows, maybe I REM closer to 3 hours anyway. I do remember dreams when I only have a short amount of sleep. Ill just have to sleep.

Try self-hyposis induced LD. Gets me tired every time

Didn't get lucid last night. ARGH!!! But, I tried an afternoon thing today again, and I did get the scariest feeling. I literally felt me fall through my bed. It was freaky yet at the same time amazing! My heart skipped a beat and I was like, "Ahh!" Which of course woke me up. But how close was I then to a lucid dream??

Falling through the bed usually drops you into either a dream or a blank canvas where you can make your own dream.
But yeah, getting startled ruins it

So if I hadn't freaked out, then I could have started picturing something and then become lucid?

I feel bad telling you this, but... most likely. Not always, sometimes the sensation is a false alarm. But usually.
On the bright side... you won't be so startled next time

yeah, kind of frustrating isn't it. it took me longer than it took webmaster, i think it took a good 3 months before I actually started to ld, and even then it wasn't all that often. Just dont give up no matter how long it takes, trust me, any amount of time is worth it. (to me at least)

Some people take almost a year. It's a skill. Some people will be better at it then others.

But everyone has the ability. If you work hard and are motivated, you will have a LD eventually.

Except for iwishicouldld. He's having a LD tonight whether he is motivated or not

You definatly have the motivation, but its important how you use it. Think of attaining lucid dreaming as you were a good body. Its working consistancy over time, pouring your effort into it all at once and too fast could end up hurting you.

Try to stay positive. I made two attempts early this morning (like my post you replied to) but I try not to get down about not becoming lucid. Each time I made more progress than before.

The first few times I managed sleep paralysis, my heart start racing and my breathing got deeper. This wasn't intentional, and I wasn't afraid, just seemed like a natural reaction. Now I expect SP and I am able to keep my breathing at the same rate. So each time you attempt it, even though you don't become lucid, you make more progress and are one step closer.

      Good luck
If you think you can't, you're right.
