      Deep Sleep

      I sleep through severe thunderstorms.

So, would this deep sleep hinder me from having LD's? I used to lucid frequently when I was a child, now in my 20's I have trouble even remembering my dreams. I have, and remember the most vivid dreams when I take a nap in the daytime since it's a light sleep. I'm going to start trying tonight using a regular interval beep on my computer that was suggested in another thread.

Are there any ways to sleep lighter?

U could leave a light on with a dimmer. It gives me more vivid dreams and better recall..even some FAs because I was very aware of the light.

Make that nap during the day a little longer, and perhaps you will sleep loner during the night also.

I don't know if this is why I sleep lightly but I keep my fan on high, and put my TV on sleep timer for 90 mins each night. I am a super light sleeper. I WILL wake up if someone is even outside my bedroom door, everytime. So maybe that could help.

That beep technique also might help.

It also could just show that your usually not getting enough sleep.

Maybe it is a good thing that you sleep deeply. If you use the technique where you have a certain noise go on throughout the night, then it has a better chance of getting into your dreams than waking you up.

But the sound will have a lot less chance of reaching into your sleep... which is the downside.

Will deep sleep make it harder to LD? In general yes, but these things depend on the person. Generally speaking though, I'd work on your dreamrecall first. If you can get good dreamrecall when you sleep deeply, then you should probably be able to get lucid too (because the good dream recall is a clear sign that you're not under too deep).

If you find that all attempts at improving dream recall fail, then yes, it might be possible to try and find methods to sleep lighter. Be aware though that this is gonna take quite some adjusting too, and might leave you feeling very exhausted and fatigued for quite a long time. So you might need to make up for it by getting 'more' sleep.

      Just some suggestions,

You can sleep lighter by sleeping in a different place, such as sleeping with your head where your feet would normally be, sleeping in a different bed, or on the couch. You should sleep lighter this way and end up remembering more dreams.

I find the deeper sleep I am in the harder it is to DILD. I would try maybe WBTB and see if you have more joy? Since you are in deep REM sleep, wake yourself up after about 5 hours or so, then go back to bed after 5/10 minutes, your REM sleep should be a lot lighter and your dream recal and chance of lucid dream should be better

      Just woke up.

Thanks for all the advice guys, it all made sense. Especially about sleeping in different locations or positions. I've always wondered why I dream so vividly and remember them while I'm on a camping trip or at someone else's house. I am going to experiment by leaving a light on and my AC fan running tonight while sleeping backwards. When I was in the shower most of what I dreamed through the night came back to me out of nowhere. I think it's mostly from reading this forum before bed and putting so much thought into it. I'm almost convinced that my deep sleep is not bad thing. I want to reach a point where I get utterly excited when it's time for bed. Are any of you at that point?
