Thanks for the technique, I'll be trying it tonight...assuming I get to sleep tonight. Did something like this a week ago, so I think it will work well for me.
So I tried this method again the other night, after it sort of worked, giving me a really vivid dream the night before. The second time, I didn't recall any dreams which I may have had, however I think I was in SP, because at one point during my visualizing, i opened my eyes, and there was a pressure on my chest, and I couldn't really move. This has never happened to me, and I was wondering if this is a step in lucidity.
Man, I just can't seem to get this. I lose my concentration every time, and then drift off to sleep with an empty mind...
Either that, or I try so hard to concentrate that I don't get back to sleep.
I kept waking up randomly last night, and one time I remembered this method. I never opened my eyes or moved. I visualized myself getting out of bed and running through the house. By the time I got to the door, I could actually feel the doorknob and the wind. The last thing I remember is jumping off of the back porch. I'll try this again tomorrow.
This sounds like a great idea. The only problem for me is that I rarely have those conscious "brief awakenings," which I think might be pauses in your sleep cycle, which repeats itself like 4 times a night. I mean, I'm sure I have them, but I never wake up enough to have a conscious thought (or at least I don't remember).
So I don't disturb my husband, I keep a small memo pad open with a pen clipped to its spiral next to my pillow. When I wake up from dream, I don't turn on the lights, nor open my eyes.. I just reach for the pad and start writing using my left thumb as a place marker (since I write with my right hand). It's not the NEATEST way to do it but I can usually decipher what I wrote when I finally do get up. :D
They also have those pens whose tips light up.. but I find my recall is better if I don't open my eyes.
maybe I forgot to emphasize this but, when you awaken during the night you should be really tired.
for example you know when your mom wakes you up in the morning and yells "John wake up its time to go to school!" and you know how you barely wake up and just open your eyes and just ignore her. You probably dont realize it but you re-enter your dream in less than 10 seconds.
What you gotta do is wake up during a brief awakening and make sure your tired (and dont think a lot) then start imagining what i mentioned in the beginning of this thread
I tried this method this morning and it worked for me!
This isn't surprising, since 90% of the time I try a new technique, it works (maybe because I get so excited and optimistic). The real test will be whether I can get it to work long term.
Anyway, here's how it happened for me. I woke up at around 8 AM, still very sleepy. I started to visualize myself getting out of my bed, walking out my front door, down the stairs, and to the parking lot. At that point, my visualization got a little more real, if you know what I'm saying. I could tell a dream had taken over.
When I moved to do a nose reality check, my physical body moved slightly, so I remained still for a minute. When I went to do the RC again, this time I was lying in my bed (instead of standing outside), but still dreaming. I kept my "dream-eyes" closed for a while, still breathing through my nose. After about half a minute, I opened my dream-eyes again and the dream world was stable.
I think this is my problem. I wake up naturally in the middle of the night, but I'm not really sleepy when I do so. I fall back asleep alright, but I'm not groggy or anything like if I have to wake up for work or class.
Tonight, I'm gonna try waking up a lot later, like after 6 hours. Hopefully, this will work.
This method worked for me again this morning, the exact same way! This is an excellent sign, as I've never tried a method that worked 2 days in a row.
This old phone was quite smooth and rounded around the edges and I wore big socks.
I only needed to do it for a week and I found on the weekend when I didn't put the phone in my sock I was waking up at the times myself.
Soon I was waking autoatically at the end of every dream.
I think I trained my body into getting used to waking in early hours.
ya this technique is the only one that works for me consistently. Be careful not to get too excited, now that it works for you because it will hype you up during the brief awakening. The key is to be relaxed and tired and everything else will take care of it self
So yeah, if you've tried this technique, check out the poll I made. I'm really interested in this technique. It would be cool to see some easy-to-read info on how everyone is doing with this.
today i slept around 1:45am and wake up around 8:30am , when i realised i am awake, mine eye remain closed and i start doing the imagination walking out from mine room to outside few times but still no ld happen.
anything i have missed here ?
thanks
mike
This technique seems amazing. I remember my first ld was from something like this. I was trying WILD using visualization to keep my mind occupied. I felt like I was getting nowhere, so I decided to be done. I got up and realized I was in a dream. I think this will work for me. Thanks. :)
apparently lots of people say this works really good so i think ima give it a try...
seems like i shouldve guessed it before now though...honestly...
Thanks, will try tonight
When you awaken during your brief awakening you should be really tired and not think too much (as if you don't care if this technique will work or not). The key is to be tired and mentally calm.
This is the hard part, where you either screw up or succeed. Its kind of hard for me to explain, but Your visualization should require no effort at all like your imagery you see when you first go to bed at night. Don't struggle and put all your mental powers and concentration in visualization, it will only keep you awake.
Its kind of hard to explain but you got to effortlessly visualize as if theres no pressure on you. Its ironic the harder you try and visualize, the more likely it wont work.
