ADHD gets in the way of many LD methods for me...

Anything that involves meditation or focusing on an image for a while... I can't do it. I'm Attention Deficit. I just can't get my mind to focus on something for more than a couple seconds. To compensate for this, I use methods that don't involve focusing like the FILD and I've tried the CAT technique once, but I didn't like how it took so long to get results. The good thing for me is that most of my LDs are naturally occuring DILDS.... What I mean by that is that they happen without any effort (like looking for dreamsigns).

Taking my medication before bed is a moot point because ADHD meds are stimulants, so they work just like coffee. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep.

It's really hard to understand how ADHD works if you don't have it... Anyone else here have this problem too? Anybody got some suggestions for me?

I've been diagnosed with ADHD several times, I refused to take medication every time I was diagnosed.

I can't really concentrate if there is no complete silence, and I really mean complete silence, either that or constant tones such as binaural beats help a lot if you want to concentrate/meditate.

Make sure that you don't have anything to worry about, if you worry about something while meditating, you'll get completely distracted.

I haven't had any other LDs that are not DILDs, but I will try the WILD method tonight, I have tried twice, but for some reason, my alarm clock won't wake me up or I won't remember.

I have the same problem. My ADHD makes it very difficult for me. After attempting to focus for only a few seconds I get distracted and decide I'd rather just daydream before I fall asleep. Ugh.

You might try taking your medication just before you go to sleep. If you can fall asleep fast enough you'll be sleeping when your medication kicks in. This might only help with DILD's, but the results could be interesting.

Actually, some people take caffiene to help them WILD because it keeps your brain awake while you relax your body enough to fall asleep. Your medications should only help you to WILD.

But still, with ADHD, you really should just stick with reality checking...

I have the same problem bad cow, although on 6 occasions I nearly entered a WILD anywayz. My latest incidental attempt was actually last night.

The problem is that my mind races from thought to thought and the amount of subconscious thoughts flooding away conscious thoughts makes it difficult to focus on and hold one single thought and concentrate on it.

The very reason we have problems with meditation/Undisturbed Concentration are also all the more reason to master Meditation. We need it more than anyone to help us function better in both dayly life and nightly dreams.

Thats true for me too. Its fine to find some people, who experience the same. Now I have "woken up" from SP onset. I wast too distracted. But maybe it would be interesting to tell you how i actually got there. Two weeks. Two weeks of full distraction and disbelief in my dream abilities. Today I told myself. More distraction from outside? More fun. Lets use it to train patience. And it worked. And was for advantage. I lost my consciousnes for a while and then regained it just on SP onset. And felt the sensation. Felt, that it is good to think just on one thing. And the reward came.

Maybe becouse we are not naturals, we may better know how good it actually is to experience lucid dreaming minorities. People talk about sleep paralysis, about lucid dreams, about WILD... But experiencing it after lot of preparation is cool. So cool. Sorry for being too sentimental, but the SP sensation was so cool.

And what hint could i bring to the discussion: It helped me to think only on the next step. Not to think about wanting to do wild or SP. At first, i wanted just to relax. And as i progressed with it i somehow remembered what people wrote to do in the next step withouth bothering myself to remember {maybe its the advantage to have over-thinking subconsciousness}.]

      Thanx for this thread

Cow, I have ADHD and have been taking medication for about 4 months now =]. it depends what type of medication you take,eg. I take concerta. It lasts 12 hours and takes about 40 minutes to properly kick in whereas from what I've heard, Ritalin kicks in a lot faster. It would be interesting to see how this would effect your dreaming =]

I used to take concerta... Now I am starting two new meds... Stretera (works about 24 hrs), and Vyvance (works like concerta, 12 hrs). I don't think I'll be on Vyvance too long though, because it makes my me depressed as hell.

I can't really experiment with Stretera because its supposed to be taken at the same time every day, but I can work with Vyvance while I still have my trial meds. Heck, I already take my vyvance early in the morning to avoid the terrible mood side effects.... I can try taking it at night and see what happens.

Hmmm.. yer but within two terms of being at my school I was suspended for doing drugs on site so I need the concerta to think before I act =P so far it's work brilliantly and when I get into 6th form I'll see if I'm ok off it for a bit, if not - I'll wait till uni =]

I stopped taking concerta because of the appetite loss and depressive side effects. Some days I would eat next to nothing... Maybe a granola bar for the whole day.

As for experimentation, The medication only seems to wake me up a lot at night. It takes me a while to get back to bed afterwards. Not much else to say.... I don't like taking it at night.
