I hear noises first, basically just someone talking about random crap, and it's usually in my right ear only. And I see someone or something in the right side of my vision spectrum.

And then they go to the center, and the images are usually kind of frightening, like zombies and deformed people and stuff like that, which leads me to sometimes believe I am clinically insane.

They are often pleasant though, just genuinely strange and random images floating in the center of my vision.

I am actually not sure if I hear sounds or see images first. I will have to pay attention to that detail.
That zombie thing sounds pretty scary, if you are trying to fall asleep My HI never seems to be related to anything else, so I am not sure what inspires it, do you have any clue what causes you to see those images over anything else?
Are the sounds related to the zombies/deformed people (haha groaning, chainsaws?), or unrelated?

The times I've WILDed.. there's always a huge dropoff for me; almost similar to what Robot Butler said about feeling like he missed something. Suddenly I realize I'm in the midst of some very serious imagery; and then I sort of pull myself into the front of my brain to bring everything into focus. But so far I've had to go almost completely unconscious to get to the point where the imagery is intense enough to enter.

so pretty much it seems that there is a very fine line that each person needs to find where they are in between sleep and consciousness and use their HI to drag them in? If you are too conscious then there is no use and if you are too tired you may just fall asleep.

seems difficult since i find that my mind wavers to and fro and i'll catch myself sometimes before falling asleep and sometimes i'm feeling as if its easy for me to enter sleep paralysis because my mind is so active but i don't get anywhere from there.

I've WILDed 3 times now and still haven't had HI yet. I just enter straight into the dream.

I was trying to pay attention to my HI during my WILD last night. I came to the realization that HI is even more difficult to remember than full dreams.

I did notice one thing. My HI at the beginning of the night comes in brief flashes. Sometimes they are even too brief to make sense of or notice in time. When I can grab onto one, I find it makes no sense whatsoever. After a WBTB, my HI is much more coherent. Each scene lasts longer, and I find I can understand them and where they came from.

For me personally HI's have been the gateways to Lucids (see profile, heh). They can started as ambigous blobs but can be very clear full on "movie" type images. I use them to transfer straight to a lucid or (WILDS). The easy way to describe it is this. Close your eyes and imagine your walking on the beach. You're seeing it in your mind but with a HI's you don't have to imagine it! Your eyes are closed yet somehow still seeing the image (and it's moving). Then imagine you open your eyes and your really walking on the beach...that would be the entry into the dream and realized you're dreaming. I think this could help some folks with HI's and WILDS.

I'm a natural, and still trying to learn the lingo.

If I understand what you mean by HI, I think that it is a good way to judge your state of consciousness. The HI changes as you drift into deeper states. It starts out as random colors and forms, then begins to form images and scenes. As you drift even deeper, environments and scenarios develop and become more realistic and animated. When you reach the threshold of a WILD experience, your dream body begins to manifests itself within the HI, as you loose awareness of your physical body and pass through the sleep paralysis state. If you can maintain consciousness at this point it is possible to enter into a LD without the false awakening experience or the scary transitional hallucinations. The subconscious mind and impending thoughts, concerns, fantasies etc… actually emerge as the HI and/or LD. In other words whatever you are thinking about, or concerned about, becomes the HI or LD.

My HI usually consists of flashes of color, shapes. Then as I get closer to actual sleep I will see scenes and little "movies."

I had my first WILD/VILD! Shift, you were completely right, the HI gets more and more encompassing until you can't tell if you are in the movie you are watching or just observing. Then i began to be able to control it/predict it and all of the sudden when I realized something wasn't possible it just was there.

Mine never turn into videos, I'm always too awake, or focus too much on them, I guess. But I'm glad it worked out with you! Did they start out as images, or what?
