      Staying awake during WILD

I have been trying to WILD for the last few nights, but whenever it's time to start WILDing I always fall asleep. So I want to know if there are any ways to keep from falling asleep?

Try counting your breaths to stay focused. Do remember that you DO have to go to sleep for a WILD.

Same here, I will fall asleep right after I wake up for a WBTB. I've tried counting breaths, doesn't work for me. I'll keep myself posted.

Do keep me posted. If you find anything that works then do share. If not o'well.

I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds like it could work for those of you who lose consciousness when attempting to WILD. I remember reading somewhere that when setting yourself up to fall asleep for the WILD, try to create a slight physical discomfort to your body. This could include placing a marble under yourself when laying down, or something of that nature. In theory, this should create a something for your consciousness to pay attention to and allow you to keep this awareness while drifting into a dream, thus allowing lucidity. It will probably not be as pleasant as simply paying attention to your breathing, but it should do the trick. Also, don't make it too painful otherwise I would imagine that you'll have trouble falling asleep in the first place.

When I fail to WILD due to falling asleep unconsciously, it is usually because I am too tired. If you try to WILD, be sure that your mind is alert and focused. At least enough to go through the entire process. Note: be aware that you have to find the thin line between being too awake and being not awake enough. Being too awake is usually better though, because you can easily relax yourself more to speed up the process (as long as your mind is not full of crap like work, relationships, polar bears or whatever).

My problem is that when I try to WILD, anything I do causes me to be too awake to fall to sleep. From discomfort to focusing, lol.

I did once reach a sort of Sleep Paralysis stage though.

For me counting is the key to not let my mind fall asleep.

Also, it is important your body falls asleep. I do this by 'pretending' i'm sleeping. Acting like I'm sleeping. Fully relaxed, and adjusting my breath to sleeprythm.

last night i got into SP and just stayed there for what felt like an hour but i would not start dreaming! i tried visualizing a scene and going for vividness, but still nothing. i guess my question is how long should it take between the SP and the dream? mabey i was thinking too much for it to work... your mind should be blank at that point right? i was concentrating on the uncomfortable feelings of my body trying to make me move (which also lasted about an hour ) thoes feelings were so strong that i eventually had to cave in and move. the rest of the night i slept like shit.

^How do you do that? Did you ever tape yourself asleep to find out?!

Any more tips on faking/pretending to be asleep or is it just relaxing completely and be sure your body is on autopilot?!

Well, here's what you need to do and it always works for me no matter what, and as a matter of fact, I've adopted this as my main method for entering dreams upon attaining SP via WILD. Once you feel the vibrations, or whatever indicates to you that you've in fact reached SP, get out of bed. Yes, I mean actually move your body straight out of bed as if you were getting up to go do something. Reason being- you've already technically entered a dream once SP hits. So, you will feel as if you are actually getting out of bed, but it's actually your dream body getting out of bed. Walk around for a bit and a dream scene should easily appear, with which you can begin your lucid adventures. Do not open your eyes when you are waiting for the scene to appear, however, as this often ends up waking me or leading up to some other undesirable outcome. Good luck with this if you decide to try it out.

I count backwards from 100 breathe in 99 breathe out 98 breath in...
Then I get interrupted by hypnagogic imagery and force myself to get back to counting again... that's worked for me.

But it doesn't always work. You have to keep trying!

One time when I did it I thought I had reached sleep paralysis so I tried rolling out of my body and I fell on the floor and I thought bugger, I'm awake after all. And then I started going about my business. Then I woke up! It had been a false awakening and I was dreaming! But I didn't realise it.

I tried again many times and eventually I got my WILD.

I have found that you have to keep trying and you will experience all sorts of weird and strange things. Document them and keep trying.

It should only feel as if you are aware of your real body. This is indeed not the case, however. Do a reality check to make sure you're actually dreaming, though, as you may just have thought you reached SP when you are really still awake.

SP = You can't move = You can't get up with your real body.
If you feel strong SP, and you can get up easily anyway, that's pretty bizzare to be real, huh?
