Receive RC via cell or SMS

As I find it challenging to remind myself to do regular Reality Checks throughout the day, I’ve thought up an idea that may help.

This idea involves giving repeated Reality Checks throughout the day to a small list of people who can receive direct calls on their cell/voice mail/SMS (text message).

I am limiting this little experiment to the first 5 people who show interest. I have SkypeOut and can call North American cell phones for free and leave Text Messages for super cheap. When you agree to participate you will not have to spend one dime (except if it costs you to receive calls on your cell, answer voice mail or check your Text Messages).

A typical day will include you answering a morning message (either voice mail or SMS or both). I will make the call sometime between 4 - 5am PST. I will just give you a nudge for the start of your day; something like, “You will do numerous Reality Checks throughout the day.”

Then, throughout the day, there will be several calls to your cell phone, which you may answer live, or let them go to voice mail. I may send an SMS. It may be something like this, “Look at your surroundings. Examine them carefully. Look for any signs that it may be a dream. Is it a dream? Are your dreaming right now?”

Due to my schedule throughout a typical day, the longest time between messages will be 4 hours. I will attempt to make 4 - 6 connections with you each day, maybe more if this method proves popular.

What I gain for helping you out is the opportunity to do Reality Checks regularly throughout the day as I will be heeding my own words to you.

All you need do is give me your first name, email address and cell number. I will keep all this data in the strictest confidence and share it with nobody.

I’m looking forward to this program and I’m quite confident that 5 eager Lucid Dream enthusiasts will sign up right away.

      Be well,

      Don

Hey! I've gotten out of the habit of doing RCs, but this sounds really entertaining. I'm in! PMing you in a minute...

I still don't get it. Why do people need to be reminded to do reality checks? If your so interested in LDing then reality checks should be on your mind all the time right?

      Hey imj,

I envy you. If you have Reality Checks on your mind all the time, congratulations. For me, throughout my busy day, I get so distracted with life that doing a RC doesn't cross mind for hours at a time. I have an idea that others may be facing the same problem, hence my offer of RC via cell/SMS.

It is a brilliant idea btw. I have thought of this similar idea but it was to be part of a dream sequence. I put my cell phone on my desk during sleep or daytime and expect it to go off. The dream person is to meet me at a place I designated to be lucid...I know it's complex. I din't think it'll work so I din't use it.....

      added bonus

I think there is an added bonus. While sleeping, in a dream, if you get a call on your cell or a text message, because it has been on your mind all day, that might be a trigger to ask if you are dreaming and consequently becoming lucid.

I'm a freak about phone security. I just hope you aren't giving the numbers to third parties (for cash, obviously). That's the thought that ran into my head, so I might as well be honest about it.

An occasionally beeping wriswatch can serve as a great reminder, too.

      Hey Abra,

If I were a telemarketer or trolling lucid dreaming websites for personal data, I probably wouldn't limit the "scheme" to 5 people. And, if I were a data collector, I would be pretty desperate - masquerading as a lucid dream enthusiast.

I have 1 confirmed volunteer for this program already and that's all I need to get started. The more the merrier; but 5 is the limit.

I've tried the wristwatch beep but it usually gets drowned out by whatever I'm absorbed in at the time. I think a voice mail message or text message will stand out a bit more.

Yeah see my problem is that while LDing is great, it doesn't dominate my life enough for me to RC regularly without some reminder.

Wow, this sounds great. I would really like to do this, except that I don't have a text message service on my phone and I would rather not have you leave voicemail because I don't check that. Bummer. If I ever get texting enabled I'll message you.

I will be mostly sending text messages, with the occasional voice mail. I can set up an automated system on Skype to send multiple text messages. I'm still collecting willing participants and will start it in a couple of days. Must do some testing first to make sure the process works.

There is room for a couple more people to join this experimental RC text messaging system. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I've done all the testing and it seems to work well.

At this rate, many people will be lucid at the same time. It's so intense and the impression is huge enough to enter someone's subconcious I'm sure mine would..... The suspense alone that when you will make the call is powerful enough.

      suspense

      Hey imj,

That's what I'm thinking about this method too: suspense. Or expectation. How many times have you sat by the phone waiting for an important call? Imagine knowing that at any time a call will come, just for you, that asks you if you are dreaming right now. Knowing that the call or text message will happen at any time again, will create anticipation. This might prove interesting. I will certainly share any successes with this forum.

      Unhappy Project FULL

I had an “Ah-Ha” moment tonight. All this time I thought the Skype cost to send a text message was 0.009 cents each. I worked that out to be about a penny for each message. With 5 people participating and let’s say 5 messages per person per day, that would be a quarter a day. However, I just realized that it costs 0.090 per message. That’s a dime per message, times 5 people, times 5 text messages per day = $2.50 per day. That works out to $75 a month - and that ain’t gonna happen.

So, I have two people signed up and I’m calling the project FULL. I’ll experiment for a few weeks and post the results.

      Don (my arithmetic sucks eh?)

Good idea. I'll try this out with a couple of my friends who I've converted to Lucidity

Wow. Why don't you just get a cell phone plan that allows for free text messaging?
