      Talking The sleep paralysis duality.

Recently I've been having sleep paralysis events every night without fail (probably no longer now that I've actually made this post).

I actually consider this sort of a good thing since for me sleep paralysis equates to a guarantee WILD as long as I keep calm and remember to concentrate or count, and these typically result in my most vivid/successful lucids.

On the other hand, while I'm not at all frightened or scared by SP events, the feeling itself is just so uncomfortable and annoying that I usually can't help but try to shake myself awake until I successfully break the paralysis or I just fall back to sleep without WILDing.

I find myself actually consciously choosing between trying to shake off the SP or staying calm for a guaranteed WILD, usually choosing the former.

This is purely a self control issue on my part, but I was wondering if anyone else ever finds themselves in a similar situation.

Maybe not every night, but sure. There are many occasions where I get into some wicked painful vibrations and I fall into the old habit of waking myself up before I realize that I can WILD.

I find that the less painful an SP session is, the more likely I'll be able to WILD before waking myself up. It varies. Some SP sessions have warm cuddly vibrations, but others feel like a drill entering my skull.

yeah i definitely relate. this happens only during DEILDs though, when i wake up and find myself in the middle of a sp. it's the kind of sp you get from a WILD, not the "scary" one. anyway, i just find it very uncomfortable like you said, and it feels like i'm not getting enough oxygen, so i shake out of it and go back to sleep. DEILDs are a type of WILD anyway, and i suspect there are different kinds of SP, some more unpleasant than others.

Nope. I love how it feels. Maybe the warm weather has something to do with your discomfort? I know it bugs me during normal sleep, at least.

I´v had many sleep paralysis episodes for around 3 years now and I got to say that in my case it´s far from a good experience. I hallucinate a lot during these episodes and hallucinations are very uncomfortable. Although I got used to it, at first it was pretty scary. When entering sleep paralysis I see very strange things around me, I hear strange sounds and sometimes I even take control of the hallucinations by being able to move things around me and sometimes fight the things I see around me (obviously while still lying in my bed paralyzed).
If I where in your case, having these everyday... I would find a treatment for it.
If interested go to wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis there are some treatments listed there.

You don't need treatment. There's nothing wrong with you. Sleep paralysis is normal...

I actually dont mind the feeling of SP. Its the images and things I see durring it that bother me. I usually "awake" while already in Sp at least once a week. I also expect to see somthing I dont want to see, like I am waiting for somthing to scare me and thats what side tracks me from alot of wilds I could be having.

I used to always "shake" myself awake out of SP when I was younger and unaware of what SP actually was. But when I got into LDing and found out that SP is a stage that you have to go through in order to achieve a WILD, I started letting it happen. Now Ive had some "really bad" experiences w/ SP when I was younger (ghosts, aliens, etc.) but Ive come to realize that if you're expecting to see something/body bad or scary, then you most likely will.

So try to relax and remember that nothing can harm you. Ive come to enjoy SP b/c I know that Im sooo close to achieving a LD which is why I probably dont have any bad SP experiences anymore.

It happened again to my last night.

My main problem with "complying" with SPs so I can WILD is that I tend to fall asleep in really "funky" positions that feel really uncomfortable while I'm SPd, so I want to wake myself up so I can get comfortable.

I agree. I love the feeling of SP.
The only thing that usually screws me up is the super strong HI right before entering a dream.

I try to enter SP on my back when trying to WILD, I found that thats the best way of getting comfortable w/o getting too comfortable and falling asleep.
