      Failed reality check

Last night I had one of my usually dreams were I'm at a big once yearly event, I always think this is way to early for this to be happening I must be dreaming and I become lucid. I did a reality check of mine where I bite my tongue and if it doesn't hurt I'm dreaming, that one has always worked for me. But this time it failed and hurt telling me I was awake. Another thing that was weird was that the dream was extremely vivid, like real life vividness.

Also my dad the other day looked at a digital clock in a dream and he said it was totally normal. Has any one ever heard of the clock reality check failing?

I'm thinking of moving to the finger through the hand or to the clock check. Do you guys have any suggestions of good reality checks to try?

I like that idea of the biting the tongue RC. I was trying to think of an RC I could do without moving, so I'm gonna start trying that.

How many times did your Dad look at the digital clock? The one time this worked for me I had to look at it 3 times.

I tried the finger through the hand RC once, but that failed for me. I plan on trying it again at some point though.

Looking at my hand has worked the most for me. It's only failed once so far.

Thanks for liking my tongue reality check I thought it was really good till it failed.

My day said he looked at it 3 time and it was still normal.

I've never really tried the looking at my hands one yet, Unless you count it when I'm doing the finger through the hand check.

Looking at digital clocks/objects has always failed with me. The only reality check that has had a 100% success rate with me is counting my fingers. Even the finger through the hand and pinch-nose-breathe-in has failed a few times. (Though for the most part they work.)

Remember one thing when doing reality checks, you need to EXPECT or HOPE for it to work. If you just make it a habbit and don't pay much attention to it in real life, it won't work in the dream world. For me, when I do a RC and it fails, yet I am still getting that dream feeling, I usually end up saying "screw this!" and jump in the air to see if I can fly, or at least hover. That always works for me, as long as I have confidence.

Anyway, good luck with future LD's!

i dont believe that i have ever had a failed reality check. I think that it is down to the fact that when i am about to do a reality check, i have a gut feeling in my stomach that i am draming and this usally makes me lucid instead of a reality check.

Although on the few occasions on which i have performed a reality check, i ahve always been backed with the faith that it will work, after all most lucid dreaming techniques require 100% faith to work otherwise the mind will not allow it to work

All reality checks have the potential to fail. For me, by the time I even think to do the RC, I am already lucid. No matter how vivid or realistic my environment, something always just feels wrong. When you practice RCs in real life, try to be really critical of your surroundings and examine your recent memories.

But I definitely feel your pain. It sucks to be fooled, especially when you are so close.

One of the reasons I think the reality check failed was due to the extream vividness of the dream.
