You were probably at the very end of you REM cycle. I've done this too, minus the pain. |

last night i was in a normal dream and i woke up but i was so tired that i accidentally did a deild, so i became lucid, i controled my exitement but i could feel something was wrong, but i didnt know what. after about 3 seconds i woke up again then chained it again due to tiredness and the same again twice, so i gave up the deild-ing, i kept myself awake and i instantly felt pain in my eye, you know when something touches your pupil in your eye and it really hurts, well it was that. |

It could be you poked yourself in the eye. My girlfriend just did that the other night. Woke up and stuck her finger right in her eye for some reason. Or maybe the pillow was touching your eye. Like Snowy said, it also could have had something to do with the way you were experiencing your eye movements during REM. |
