Yeah, my dream character mom does the same thing. If I tried to ignore it, she sometimes ended up chasing me (other times, we'd just keep arguing). I usually wouldn't ask her if it was a dream, though. She'd just say something like "Where do you think you're going?" and then I'd explain myself. If she didn't believe me, she'd chase me or block the way. What was the argument like?
Anyway, it stopped happening because of two things: 1. I told my real life mom about lucid dreaming, and reality checks. I easily got her to agree that doing reality checks in a dream pretty much proved that you were dreaming. 2. Instead of arguing in the dream, I'd say "Look, mom. My finger goes through my hand, so I know this is a dream. See you later."
Also, don't ask the dream characters. They act as people do in real life. If you were to ask a real life person if it was a dream, they'd probably say no (unless they were interesting!). Dream characters respond the same way. If you want to mess with the dream characters by asking them that question, I suggest you do so only when you are 100% confident that you are correct (otherwise, you risk losing lucidity) before you start.
