      Dream Recall.......?

When I wake up, I do not remember anything of my dream but I know I did dream so I don't move and try to remember. Little by little my dreams come back and remember. Most of the time I remember many dreams but really small parts from each. Almost just a picture (some I remember almost completly)

Is that a bad dream recall, as, Do I still have improvment to do before even thinking about trying an LD?

[Edit] What is you guys' dream recall. How many dreams do you remember per night, how clearly, how long? ANd that's when for when you started getting LDs voluntearly.

[Edit] I find it easy to remember a dream once I've went through it once and keep thinking about it every once and then.

      Just a question

If in an LD, since I'm conscious, if I go through my dream (I think of what I would be writing in my DJ) while I live the lucid dream, will I remember it better? Since I'm conscious. Is the reason why we forget it even when conscious because we don't do what I suggested? Because we don't write every detail in that memory box in our head and we only wait to be awake to try to remember it? If we try remembering it while dreaming, won't the conscious help us remember it?

Well you can LD still but what's the point? You can't remember it.

But I do remember my dreams and if I had an LD I would make conscious note of my surrundings so it can be easier to remember when I wake up, since I am able to remember some parts. Its just that to many Technique they say "you'll need a certain dream recall" and I just wondered if mine fitted because I do remember a lot of dreams, just some are just 10 sec. memories.

      Like the DEILD technique?
With that you would need to know the dream you had before, not all of it just some parts you can focus on so you can drift to sleep. Well I don't know I cannot do a DEILD for some reason lol. Not sure if that's what you are asking

It's better to keep your recall optimal in all areas--not just lucid dreams. Even if you manage to remember just the lucid parts, you'll probably forget everything else (or fall back asleep and forget everything). It's a skill that needs constant maintenance. What if you only remember doing the reality check and thinking "I should remember this," but forget the rest? You should be aware of when you lose lucidity, as well as what happens before you gain it. That way, you can find what has been working for you, and what you need to improve on.

I think I remember dreams pretty much the same way you do, except for one aspect. When I wake up I immediately know I dreamt, but all I remember is a short scene, an environment, or sometimes just a single word (a few days ago it was "calendar" ) and I have to stay completely still to gather more fragments, which rarely form a complete dream plot.

I'm not a proficient LDer so I can't speak as to if this is considered "good" recall. I personally don't think that it is... but I also think it can be improved with practice. As least that's what I'm hoping.

yeah, I plan into improving (even if you had said it was a great dream recall) I just wondered if it was enough (again, enough is just the minimum and I aim for my maximum, just wondered if it was higher than the minimum).

Aioinae, sometimes I wake up and know I've dream, those times I tend to remember more, but most of the time I have to think a bit and then it all comes. It's pretty cool actually.

I've just started my DJ and haven't got the chance to use it yet, but I'll try tonight and continue until I die

The problem with DEILDs is you need to lay still and go back into the last dream.
DILDs are good, but you are in full sleep usually, so also hard to remember the dream, even after LDing. (It also may be hours before you actually wake and you may never remember them).
So you can't reach over and write anything. If you can remember later, one or more dreams, great.
But if you are like me you need to write them down (even dot points) straight away, or fairly soon after the dream.
Is why I find WBTBs great cos you only have to remeber dreams from withing the last 90/60/30 mins (depending on when you have the dream(s)) before being able to wake and record them.
I ususally always remember these early morning session dreams.

      Exclamation

I find it easy to remember a dream once I've went through it once and keep thinking about it every once and then.

Not many of us will be that aware out of lucidity to go over the dream during normal sleep.
Also, I don't know many who if they become Lucid, will use their Lucidity time thinking about writing in their dream journals.
      Just saying.

No but I mean, as I would try to fly I would think "In my lucid dream, I've tried flying" and I would state my feelings. I wouldn't just stop and think, I would state what I'm doing as I'm doing it. I would state how I feel as I feel it. I'm just saying. Would it be a good way to clearly remember your lucid dream?

It could, but diminishing the enjoyment somewhat.
If your goal is mainly to remember it, sure.
Just saying you may be one of the few who would.

I don't see why it would diminish the enjoyment. I'd think making notes to remember the experience when you wake up would make you enjoy the experience even more, like a happy memory of any real-life event.

CookieDough was saying thinking through it AS you are Lucid.
This was out latest point of discussion.

Well... uh... Doing that would keep you calm and not excited which would help you not to wake up. Being too excited wakes you up so this would keep you calm even though you would feel everything and you could remember it better and the feelings would still be enjoyed. Oh, and I don't plan into doing that all the time but I mean, I could just do it if I'm in a dreamscape that is complicated to remember. i could look everywhere and stating to myself "There's a bush with a bird in it" (really bad exemple) but just describing the place could help... I think.

I'm aware of that, I don't think I expressed myself clearly there. What I meant was that committing the current events to memory, while lucid, would encourage you to do more, because of the reassurance that you'll remember it like you would an IRL memory. IMHO.
