      Lexapro prevents lucid dreaming?

I've been taking one tablet of 20mg of Lexapro every night for depression for the past few months now... at least that was the prescription. Sometimes almost every other night I would forget to take it, with absolutely no side effects mind you, and I started to notice that only on the nights I would NOT be taking my pill, would I be able to become lucid that night.

In fact, just the night before when I had banana cereal (a bowl of milk and banana slices only) to aid lucidity and purposely did NOT take Lexapro when I did the night before, I became lucid, although for a brief period of time. Last night, I drank Peppermint tea, had banana cereal again and took only a 10mg tablet of Lexapro (my psychiatrist advised to go back to 10mg, since obviously not taking it every other night wasn't causing any visible changes). No lucid whatsoever.

Because of this, taking this medication is a chore, and I always feel much better about my chances of becoming lucid when I don't take it. When I do take it, I feel it's almost a guarantee of not lucid dreaming.

What do you guys think? I think there are most likely ingredients in it that cause the opposite of what lucid aid ingredients are supposed to do to the brain. As for my depression symptoms, by the way, they seem to be slowly getting better all the time, but not significantly enough that I'd want to pass up lucid dreaming in favor of the pill.

I think lucid dreaming is so heavily dependent upon expectations, that the chances that there's really a causal link between your medication and not being able to lucid dream are very slim.

You might also try lucid techniques that shouldn't be dependent upon a perfect brain state, such as WILD or DEILD.

I have been on Lexapro 10mg once per day for a couple of months now. I am still able to dream lucidly.

I am no expert on the effects of SSRIs in conjuction with dreaming, but I am convinced that since I've been on Lexapro, my dream recall and ability to lucid dream have somewhat decreased. I don't deny the possibility that this may be as a result of the placebo effect, but regardless, it troubles me to have this happen.

Lexapro has certainly helped me as far as depressive symptoms are concerned, and for the time being, I've decided to continue with the medication. However, I am looking into supplements that are known to help increase REM sleep and vividity of dreams.

I've taken the same medication for over 6 months, and it has not affected my lucidity. For the first months, it made my dreams more vivid than usual, though this effect has gradually decreased. However, I take them in the morning, and it could be a good idea for you to do the same. Also, it's not really a good idea to skip days now and then, as the medication needs to be taken regularely to work correctly.

I took 20 mg Lexapro for anxiety and PMDD for several years. I don't think I was every lucid during any of that time... but I've only been lucid a few times my whole life lol
I was switched to 20 mg Celexa a couple months ago but it doesn't work nearly half as well for me, so at my next appointment I'm going to ask about switching back.

Try taking your med when you first wake up. Perhaps that may help.
