Lightbulb Second LD. I need some tips please.

Okay so after about 5 months of trying every night to have an LD, I got one this morning. I remember waking up in my bed after having many normal dreams and thinking dammit i didnt go lucid again.

And then a hand flew right past my face

I instantly knew I was in a LD and as soon as I had that feeling of awareness my entire body went tingly and I knew I was losing it, tried to focus on something, and then just woke up for real.

What could I have done to maintain lucidity?

Wow this is the first time Ive had an LD after finding out what LDs were so the feeling of awaking in a fake bed was surreal.

Congratulations on the lucid, even if it was a short one.

There are actually a lot of different ways you can prolong a lucid. Some of the most common are looking at your hands or rubbing your hand together. It would help if you didn't get too excited at becoming lucid; that definately makes it end faster. Of course, a lot of times that's easier said than done.

But like anything, it takes practice. I have confidence that you'll get better at it soon.

      Wow, that's wierd.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you about to post virtually the same thing.

I had an LD about 20 years ago but didn't know what it was until a month or so ago and have been trying to LD since then with no success.

This morning I got my first LD since actually trying but it only lasted for a few seconds once I became lucid. I didn't really get a chance to even think about stabilising before I woke up. I feel like I've made a breakthrough though which is great

aww man that blows. I think you became too aware and woke up. Its hard to maintain the balance of being aware and being asleep. all i can say is relax and try rubbing your hands or spinning around

good luck. and dont worry. after you've had your first lucid dream, you will probably start having more and get used to it

It was at the end of a long dream and I think it was about to end anyway. Hopefully I can become lucid nearer the beginning of a dream and then use the hand rubbing and spinning techniques then.

Not expect to wake up just because you're excited, like the myth goes.

Wrong. There is no balance to maintain. You're actually screwing yourself over with that. Not only are you trying to focus on a pointless task of "maintaining balance," but you're also becoming less aware with that "balance." You can be 100% aware in dreams. The dream maintains itself.

For both of you, since it's not like me to give advice without proof, here's why excitement or awareness cannot ruin lucid dreams.
      1. Nightmares. Aren't they the most excited people can be in dreams? (Terrified as well.) People don't wake up from nightmares just because they get excited. Why would being lucid make any difference?
      2. Awareness. The entire point of lucidity is awareness. You've never heard of master LDers having to tune down their awareness, have you? I can also say that I have never had any issues whatsoever with being "imbalanced." The dream is completely separate from your consciousness.
      3. But why do people wake up when they get too excited or aware? As I mentioned before, because they expect to. It's a popular myth that it can happen. I, frankly, am amazed at how much false information there is on what one "has" to do to LD, or "laws" of the dream world that become true for people when they read them.

The same thing happened to me the night before last. My whole body started to tingle and I lost it.
Don't know how I'd spin around while I can hardly even sit up in bed.
