Now what would be a good idea would be a teenagers section and a mature members only section, say 30+. Although even some 30 year olds are immature lol!
i know exactly what your saying and i totally agree no two snowflakes look the same and everyones sittuation is unique but, like snowflakes, a crap load of them are almost identical.
most of these repeated questions are just blunt short questions like "how do i keep from swallowing when wilding" and "can i listen to music while wilding"
its questions like these that are a problem,
but i have absolutly nothing against people with situations and questions that arent just carbon copies of a question asked and answered very thuroughly 5 minutes earlier. i cant really think of a good example of what i mean but im sure u understand

in the past ive had questions and searched for it and found fairly recent posts worded almost exactly as i would have asked and got some very useful answers. it works well for most situations

I agree with this post but im still going to stay out of this one since its my ways to help those who ask no matter how stupid or how many times the same has been asked

but on the other hand making a FAQ for noobs is a good idea

I've also thought that if we were to have a FAQ, it would be a good idea to put together a series of links pointing to threads on the topic. For example, you could have under the heading of WILD (these are just examples and not exactly "prime" examples for a minute of searching):

      Where to start
      Am I close?
      How should I breathe?

And so on. Under a "Reality Checks" FAQ one could have "What kind of RCs are there?" "How often should I do them?" "Reality Checks are failing!" etc.

      Just a thought.

Anything to do with eating something before bed.

-Should I eat a banana before bed?
-Would eating chocolate before bed help?
-My friend said I should eat cheese before bed.
-I got a great idea: drink coffee AND eat nuts before bed!

Uggghhh. Those types really drive me nuts.

This might be a little tricky but given a significant amount of programming time you could
have the software scan the contents of the text entered into the textbox,
examine any questions in the text string and automatically direct the user to the appropriate
thread where his question has already been answered.

I know that Google itself can't even pull that feat off just yet but it's worth a try.
Start off simple, like scanning for a question mark (?) and moving on from there.
Call the search routine "Dream~Scan". Once it's perfected you can license it out and make a mint.

I think if you could program something like this and turned it into a product that could be sold, you'd be a wealthy man.

You know how many forums with the same "noob" problem as us would KILL for somthing like this?

"Yahoo answers" has such a system. You enter your question, and it automatically shows you resolved questions that resemble your own.

I still think that DreamQueen is right. If newbs couldn't ask 'was this lucid,' only had to read a FAQ, then things would get too impersonal. Sure, a FAQ wouldn't be bad, but not allowing a person to explain thier personal experience will not only turn them off from the site, the wonder of explaning thier dream, frantically wanting to type it up on a computer so other people can 'feel' what they feeled, will also go away at least in part. Sharing is part of the experience, as is feeling like people care and what you to understand LDing.

What if we took this oone step farther? In all sections, all threads that have been made before with a similar/identical question can never be asked again but will instead be covered in the FAQ. If we did that, eventually very little LD discussion would exist at all and DV would be even more off-topic.

Granted thier posts should stay in the n00b zone and not spill over into Dream Control and such.

Ironically, I've seen similar threads to this one on multiple occasions.

I've made a rather small FAQ with Shift's questions. I wasn't able to answer all the questions, as I don't have enough experience.

The lines preceded by // are comments from me and should be removed if this thing is going to be published
Also, feel free to edit anything you wish to edit, just make sure you post it back here.

That doesn't sound too bad to program using java. Anyways, FAQ sounds good, but, LD is a subjective experience and we shouldn't limit people to the threads they create. I haven't really seen any of these issues in the forums when I joined. I'm also guilty making a thread about my first LD to celebrate getting one, lol, even though I knew that it was likely an LD

I know how it feels to be annoyed by all the same threads, but seriously....

... is it really that hard to just ignore the threads? If you're sick of the question being asked, then just don't read it. There have been a lot of new members coming to the forum lately, and the whole forum isn't like the lounge, where people are trying to com up with unique ideas for a fun thread. The lucid Dreaming Section is for learning, and if there are new people who want to ask questions that may have been asked before, who cares? They just want to learn to Lucid Dream, not come up with an amazingly creative thread. Man you people get annoyed at the littlest things. So the forum may be a bit cluttered with redundant threads. OCD much?

and dreamqueen makes a good point. Sometimes searching isn't enough, when you're starting out you really want advice to be directed to your experiences. Not all of you may have had a hard time with lucid dreaming and know how frustrating it can really be, but for those that do should be able to sympathize.

Well, Lagunagirl, you do have a point there. But there's another reason: forums get cluttered because of these posts and it gets harder to find stuff.

yes, I guess that's true. It does get a bit monotonous, but still... I don't think it's that big of a deal for everyone to be acting so angry about it

      I'm definitely supporting you OP.
I too am sick of all this nonsense, same questions ever day crap.
It's why I don't really come around anymore (aside from some BD section and Lucid Task)
Nothing really interesting, just useless newbies (no offense to any of you!).
oh, and a FAQ (sorry for being redundant) would be nice.

I change my mind! instead of a just an FAQ, we also need to sticky specific questions. so that when the noob comes on the forum, scared of some demonic possession, he reads the stickied thread..........

      "Paralyzed? Evil Presence in room?"

and they look at the thread title and go...eureka! 'thats what happened to me!!' click on the thread, and we calmly explain to them what the hell sleep paralysis is

if you just make a thread 'sleep paralysis' you're still going to have people telling you about the demon keeping them trapped on their bed. Those words and their experience don't always make a connection. From time to time we get noobs even in the beyond dreaming trying to tell us about their supernatural experience, which wasn't so special after all.........

      - evil presence in room?
      - How to tell if you are lucid
      - Comprehensive WILD FAQ/Problems with WILDing?

The purpose of the FAQ and other stickies has a two fold benefit. Noobs that just want a quick answer can find one. Forum is cleaner for all of us. YAY
