How to maintain the Lucid Dream

Hello, new to the community here, and if i may, i have a few questions. At first i didnt believe that you could attain a lucid dream, but, i was proven wrong, i did have a lucid dream, but im unsure whether i had a lucid dream or a lucid "moment" in the dream. Do you have any tips on how to maintain the lucid dream, or start it up? Thanks in advance

I am new here too, but I used the search feature and found a lot of my questions were in there when I looked through the forum. I see alot of DV members say here that spinning helps to keep the dream going -some also say that spinning does not work - so I do not know what to use. I guess different things work for different people.

I would try the "spin technique" as it is a widely used to prevent dreams from ending.

To become aware of the state of dreaming, one should know what his dreams are like and should be able to recognize them so a dream journal also helps.
      You should keep one

Welcome! Well, to start things off, let me say this: A dream is lucid as SOON as you become aware that your dreaming. Whether it's only for a moment, or almost at the beginning of your dream, it was a lucid. If you were not aware that you were dreaming at any one point in the dream, you were NOT lucid. I say this a lot to new members as soon as they join (being as I was confused myself) that control has NOTHING to do with being lucid. You can be lucid, but just helplessly watching your dream like a television. As long as your conscious whilst dreaming, it's a lucid.

Spinning is a popular one, but it really varies from person to person. If your lucid long enough to say "clarity" or "clarity now" or "brighten" or any word that is affiliated with making your dream brighter/more vibrant, say them. This could work.

Rubbing your hands together could also work. Try to concentrate hard on your senses, so your dream acquires a "solid" structure.

THe most important thing though, is have confidence. If you don't believe that your dream will hold/brighten, it most certainly will NOT. You must BELIEVE that what you want to happen, will indeed happen.

I am used to having very short LD's because sometimes I would gain lucidity and the area would be kind of unstable, so to be safe i would start thinking about spinning. While I did manage to spin and get a bit more clarity, I faded soon after because I was just rushing things trying to think too fast about what to do or where to go. It's a really exciting thing and it's hard to completely calm down.

BUT! Yesterday morning when I had a DILD I found myself in a place I kind of wanted to be, so I was calm, taking in my surroundings. I was in this square courtyard outside of a house with 4 old style rendered walls and a tree in the middle. I kneeled down and picked up some kinds of leaf litter off the ground and felt the texture. I then saw some pliers and picked those up. I examined them up close and saw their detail. It really made everything much more stable and clearer because I went on to be lucid for 10x longer than any other time where i usually fade within a few seconds.

I wrote a dream journal post about it too.

So yeah I agree just relax when you first become lucid, just take in where you are and test your senses, and you'll be having longer LD's.

i have had one lucid, i was a newb, so had no idea what to do.

but i figure, a dream world consists of 5 things. sight, sound, taste, touch, smell.
so when a dream fades, essentialy, its these 5 senses that are fading.

so a solution is to increase the strength of these senses by provocative actions, such as touching grass, tasting food, smelling flowers, listing to hands clapping.

so the next time i find myself lucid, i will do the above imediatly. and i will do it every couple of minutes, to keep the dream stable + vivid.

try it. i will. ill let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the help, ill try to clarify what happened, in an irrelevant part of the dream, i was walking down stairs, then, while i was doing that, i realized i was dreaming, but after that, i think i wasnt lucid anymore but the dream went on as the dream kinda got weird and i forgot i was in control...

Weird thing is that i never used any techniques or any preparation, no dream journal, i just learned it existed a few weeks before, kinda set it aside, and bam, it happened
