You're not alone. Many lucid dreamers experience their states of awareness at random, and plenty of them have their problems with inducing a lucid on command. Check around the on topic parts of the forum, I guarantee you'll find loads of help threads from those who can't nail that WILD. You should also take into account that some folks' bodies are more inclined to fall into sleep paralysis than others. Some experience it after waking on a regular basis. I've experienced sleep paralysis only one time, and it was never because of my hours worth of lying stone-still (I'd just woken from a dream, it was by chance). I do, however, tend to be a natural at WBTB.
You'll have to find what works for you. It's very likely that your techniques may only require some tweaking before you find results. There are other factors in your life that may also effect your dream quality (things like the amount of exercise you get, or whether or not you constantly go to bed hungry).
