How do I figure out my REM cycles?

Hello, while reading some info on WILDing, I read you have to wake up after a REM cycle. How do you know when your REM cycles are? What are some ways to tell?

On average, a REM cycle lasts 90 minutes, but it varies from person to person. Start by setting your alarm in intervals of 90, and then if you notice that it seems too soon/late then adjust accordingly. You could also try to wake up in the middle of the night using autosuggestion, and then you should be able to calculate your REM cycle from there. Really, though, 90 should work fine.

For me as it gets nearer to morning from 5 am onwards the sleep cycle compresses to an hour each and by the time it is 9am....I go to REM right away.
