      Cool Scaring Oneself to Lucidity

I think this hypothetical "technique" would be highly dependent on the person applying it. Some are more easily scarable than others. No offense to women but, this technique would probably be more effective for you than for men.

Basically what I tried a couple of days ago was to wake up in the middle of the night WBTB-style and then to read horror stories and watch creepy videos. There are plenty on the net. I found it easier to fall asleep than I thought, but I would consistently wake up while getting this very intense feeling of dread. I felt surrounded by an evil presence. I ended up getting visions, and I managed to somehow transform one of them into a lucid dream. Success.

I have NO idea how effective or consistent this can be as a technique. Has anyone here who's a horror buff tried something like this? I am curious myself.

That is very interesting! Alot of people, myself included, become lucid during nightmares. Inducing nightmares is an interesting and potentially effective technique. Unfortunately, I do not like horror in general (because, well, it scares me ), so I will leave this method test to the brave ones.

I remember the first time I did a bungee jump. That evening I had a very vivid dream/nightmare. So, maybe actually doing scary things could help us to become lucid too?
