      My WBTB failed...

I tried a WBTB for the first time last night.
It really didn't work at all, however I think many things I did that night made it inaccurate and failworthy...

      • I went to bed at around 12:30am, waking up at 4am
      • I had been to a wedding reception, and got a bit of sleep in the car home
      • I don't think I managed to stay awake for a minute after waking up

Does anyone have any suggestions that I can change next time that I didn't do? I got nothing out of it.

      Thanks,

      Calum

You answered your own question. You did the technique wrong ,so, next time do it right. Sleep 5 hours, stay awake for at at least 30 minutes, and try doing getting to bed earlier, if you can. And don't be upset if you don't get results the first time you try it.... although you certainly may get results! Good luck.

IMO, It doesn't really matter what time you go to bed. I would suggest setting your alarm for 4-6 hours after falling asleep (which you did). When you wake up, physically get up out of bed. Go get a drink of water, use the bathroom, etc. Try not to turn on any lights, so your eyes will still be nice and calm when attempting to go back to sleep. If you usually have trouble getting back to sleep, only stay up for about 10 minutes. If you are naturally good at getting back to sleep, I suggest staying up for about 20 minutes. It is really a preference thing. You should experiment with different times and see what works best for. The idea is to be awake enough to stay consciously aware while falling back to sleep, but tired enough to be able to actually fall asleep. Good Luck to you!

Okay, thanks guys. KingYoshi, I will be able to get back to sleep easily probably, however I have school the next morning. Therefore, I'm going to do it but just with 10 minutes out of bed. Do you reckon this will work?

Yeah, 10 minutes should be fine. I only wake for 10 minutes at most when I WBTB. Often times I stay up for only 5 minutes. You will just have to make sure you don't fall asleep normally.

I'm terrible at falling back asleep. I usually only get up long enough to go drink apple juice, maybe check a few posts here on the forum just to get my mind on lucid dreaming.
