Why don't you hear about meditators accidentally WILDing?

I was thinking this today while meditating. There doesn't seem to be much difference between meditation and relaxation strategies used in WILD. But I've never heard a meditator say, "Hey, I was meditating the other day and suddenly I was in a dream!"

      Any ideas?

      From Wikipedia:
"Some religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism describe states of consciousness (i.e., Nirvana or Moksha) where individuals "wake up", and discover a new or altered state of consciousness that reveals their normal waking experience to be unreal, dream-like, or maya (illusion)."

So you do hear about it... sorta, I guess

Because they WILD. so they Astral Project. Not Lucid Dreaming.

      Wild = Astral projection.
      Dild, Dield.. = Lucid Dream.

Lucid Dream = A small part of Astral Projection.

      My experience...

Once I was meditating for about an hour and then suddenly I saw some clowds and light, I was flying and I was really conscious about it. If I think about it now, I would say it was a WILD. I controlled it too !

...Now that I know this might happen - I don't block it and may even state an intent to meditate to get this imagery. But anyone more experienced - is it a WILD?

Actually you do WILD when meditating if you are not alert......

I meditate daily for at least 30 minutes. Just like WILDing I will find after 20-30 minutes that I start getting Hypnogogic imagary - swirling colors etc - after 20 minutes I have entered deep relaxation and can no longer feel my body and my breathing is slow and deep. After 30 minutes I will start getting mini dreams or dreamlets. A couple of times I have found these start to solidify and found myself in a WILD.

Dont forget that the goal of meditating is to still the mind by focusing and concentrating on ONE thing or indeed NOTHING. YOu have to dismiss all thoughts as soon as you realise your mind has drifted.

Therefore, for me at least, Mini Dreams and WILDing are normally shrugged off as an irritating distraction.

When I meditate then I dont want to WILD......

This is not correct. A WILD is merely a wake initiated lucid dream. Notice the words "lucid dream" tacked onto the end. Just like any other ILD. Not sure how you are defining astral projection here, but it seems very loose. Do you have any citations for these claims?

I think it depends on your intention. When you meditate you are trying to discard those thoughts and images and bring your mind back to thinking about nothing, or your mantra, loving-kindness, whatever. So for example, often when I meditate I will notice sounds or odd sensations but I try to ignore them. When you are WILDing I suppose that you would be intending to dream, and therefore the meditation would take that path since you'd be encouraging the dream visions.

I want to have a WILD... They seem so trippy. Haha astral projection is a crazy idea too. I wanna try it.

Does this also say something about Lucid Dreams? Can you reach some sort of enlightenment through LD's like you can with meditating? Hm

spiritual practices (including meditation) are just about always easier and more effective in a dream, because in that state you have a lot of 'flexibility of mind.'

How do you go about meditating in a dream? If I ever try it my dream ends. I guess I could do walking meditation with eyes open, but to sit and close the eyes would certainly make my dream end.

Damn you people...! Astral projection has never been scientifically prooved! So stop looking at it as a possibility! We have a paranormal related stuff forum here, use that.

Just take it as a slightly different experience to usual LDing and quit whinging please.

And it's "proved". "Proven" would be more suitable though.

But he has a point. One is a scientifically proven state that we've almost all experienced here on this forum. The other is, frankly, more about interpretation.

Eh, but AP is related to WILD here... since many people accidentaly WILD while trying to do the second via meditatiog unless the OP wants an incomplete answer... but yeah, accidental WILDs via meditation that is suposed to lead to AP happens, just that people give it a different name.

A lot of times this does happen, intentional or unintentional. A lot of people who meditate induce out of body experiences to, but this is usually intentional.
The reason why you don't hear about this is because how often do you have this conversation with someone who meditates?
