I just had THE MOST obvious dream sign but I didn't become lucid!

      Hi

Today I recalled 3 dreams! i went to bed by looking over my dream journal and saying "I will remember my dreams" then i woke up naturally at around 5 and i kept sayign to my self "I will remember my dreams, i will become lucid" then i had a dream where i was running with a friend and i tell him, "This is just a dream so if you wanta become lucid then I'll tell you when you're in REM" and i never became lucid... i have a big problem with dreams where the most craziest stuff will happen but i dont become lucid, like my 2nd dream was just a variant of the first where I was running with some one else but then my 3rd dream I was freefalling and landed ontop of a building and i didnt die because my fall was cushioned by landing on a backpack full of clothes and thats all i remember

when i woke up i tried to WILD and I felt slight vibrations in my foot, then I saw HI but i got bored so i stopped it (30+ min of nothing happening)

so my big question is, should i just continue with the DJ and affirmations and hope that i will realize that im dreaming?

That happens to me all of the time... just last night, in my dream, I was having a discussion with a girl about how her dreams were completely crazy and pointless. I completely failed to ever consider the possibility I was dreaming.
I'd keep going, because although I haven't been doing this very long, occasionally I do become lucid, and that is the greatest feeling.

No it doesn't, because I would also love to know why this happens.

I have the same problem and I thought the nature of this problem may be in that you don't actually want to lucid dream and just go with the flow in your dreams.

For example, I have been in control in some of my dreams but haven't been lucid. Those dreams were enjoyable and maybe I didn't want to look back at my mean physical existence which would've kept me from consciously being aware of my physical being.

Okay, let's see here. This happens because in dreams, the logic centre of your brain is turned off. You tend to create absurd rationalizations for the dream's behavior.

Now for the actual problem solving.

Try adding RC's to the equation. Look around every once and a while, asking yourself if you are dreaming. Don't try to automatically dismiss the notion, but instead objectively try to find an answer to the question.

Ask yourself this: For your affirmations, are you using the MILD or the Autosuggestion method. I recommend the former, because with MILD you can try as hard as you can, but with autosuggestion you must maintain a passive, unbaised standpoint.

For the MILD technique, you should repeat the matras you are using, and at the same time visualize your most recent dream, but this time become lucid in your visualization. See yourself encountering a strange situation, doing a reality check, and realizing you are dreaming.

Yes! I finally recognized that something was a bit strange, and became lucid!

So what happened was that I transported from my friend's house to my house. I thought that it was a little strange, not really that much out of the ordinary, but I decided to RC anyway. I was really surprised when it failed and I realized I was dreaming.

But I'm really glad that I recognized that something was up. Hopefully I'll be able to do it more often now.

This has happened to me before.

I was talking to someone who also knew about lucid dreaming and joking around with him about it. I even went on to say "Don't forget to do reality checks!" I then said "Pinch your nose and try to breathe!" While doing this myself. "Double check a clock!" I looked at a clock, looked back, looked again. I did two reality checks, while talking about lucid dreaming, while not becoming lucid.

I need to focus on really asking myself when I do RCs, "Am I dreaming?" Which has caused me one very short lucid so far

Glad I'm not the only one frustrated by experiences like this--I've had a number of dreams about lucid dreaming without becomming lucid. I once had a DC try to explain to my that she was a DC and that I was just dreaming. I didn't believe her for a while, but luckily I figured it out and became lucid for a short while.

During sleep, the brain chemicals (serotonin and norepinephrine) that help us with judgement and attention during our waking life are either low or completely shut off--in addition to our brains only being selectively activated--so it can be tough to make sense of things and realize you're dreaming even when you're talking about it.

The good new is that it is possible to make sense of things, but not easily for most people. I think incorporating RCs during the day might help; maybe even use talking/thinking about lucid dreams as a time to do a RC. I don't think there's an easy way around experiences like this, though.

It sounds like you're trying too hard. I've read in a lot of places that thinking too much about lucid dreaming/trying too hard to lucid dream will actually hurt your ability to lucid dream. Try not doing anything for a couple of days, just rest and don't worry about remembering your dreams/lucid dreaming and then start again. You might be surprised at how much you remember when you're not trying to.

      1) It's DEILD.

      2) It means Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream... Ie as soon as you wake up, you don't even move, close your eyes and then fall asleep, conciously aware.

      3) if you are intested about LD, why not look at the tutorials forum? Great place to start out.

ReachingForTheDream, may I add just how impressed i am about that DEILD record youi have going?

Everyone should have done a reality check when they saw this.
