SPish When I First Go To Bed

I've found that I can enter the preliminary stages of SP and maybe even get a little bit into it for real when I first hit the hay at night. Like last night I was reciting to myself, "I will wake up and completely remember my dreams" and I began feeling the common precursors to SP. I was all relaxed and eventually my hands and feet started feeling limp and some time later I could tell my feet and legs were beginning to hit the paralysis. I had the familiar visual effect of seeing lots of small yellow spots with my eyes closed. (If that makes any sense).

Only issue is, it takes a long time for it to advance that far. And this seems to happen whenever I have a mantra like that which I recite in my mind. I'm not looking to WILD at 12:30 at night. I'm trying to get my dream recall up. So really I'm trying to not experience the SP like that, because I don't actually fall asleep when it happens (or perhaps I never get far enough along through it to experience the sleep). And I need to actually sleep. Any ideas on what to do?

      All the best,
      Youssarian

Well, if you don't want to experience SP, just make another mantra to yourself. "I will not experience SP unless I intend to." Perhaps that will let you sleep. If dream recall is all you want to focus on though, sometimes doing a WBTB will help you with that.

Do nothing. This shouldn't have any effect on your quality of sleep or your dream recall unless you stress out about it.

It's a phase, it's harmless, and it'll pass. So for now, just ignore it.

OK. I have another issue. I find that as I enter SP, or at least what I assume is SP given the familiar characteristics, muscles in my feet contract - my toes curl, feet arch and bend, etc. Any useful info on that?

      Thankies again

My muscles twitch as well. I don't think there's any problem with it, just body reactions.

Sounds like a hypnic jerk, occurring in beta (light) sleep, especially in athletes (according to one of my old profs).

Haha athlete I am not. But that makes sense, I guess. I always associated 'hypnic jerk' with the falling sensation from when muscles all laxed at once.

It doesn't wake you up any though. It's just a twitch. Kinda breaks the unease without disrupting your SP!

my problem with SP is that my nuts always itch. bad.

Roflcopter. I get twitches in my legs mostly, and itches in various random places that don't last long enough to merit treatment.

That put imagery in my head that did not belong there.
