      almost lucid w/ dreamsign

I have a recurring dreamsign that has been making a regular appearance for years - and even more regularly now that I am journaling my dreams. Tornados. Why? I have no clue.

Anyway, a couple nights ago, I encountered a tornado in a dream - sort of. It was more like a dust devil coming out of the top of a building. I spent a long time examining it. And I was thinking "Is this a dream?" And I looked all around, up and down, taking in all the details and the whole scene trying to decide if it was a dream. It was SO real! To me, the dreamer, it was absolutely as clear, vivid, and perfect as waking life. It was indistinguishable! But I was still suspicious because of the tornado. So I looked at my hand (one of the RCs I practice) and seven fingers! I realized I was dreaming and instantly woke up.

The thing that was extraordinary was the lingering memory of how real it seemed as I was experiencing it. Even as I was examining my surroundings to see if it was a dream, I COULDN'T TELL!!! It was so real that I was a little freaked about it afterwards, thinking that I really can't tell the difference between waking and dreaming. Note to self: never use a reality check that would be fatal in waking life.

Well this was a lucid dream, even if you woke up, because you realized you were dreaming. So gratz on that!

But more importantly, you shouldn't feel bad that you couldn't tell the difference between that and waking life. After all, your brain constructed it using memories OF waking life. And you should consider yourself lucky. From what I have gathered using this site, I believe there are two kinds of dreamers, hazy dreamers (like myself) where the dream seems fogged and looking around takes a lot of effort, and crystal clear dreamers (like you) who have very realistic dreams and typically have natural powers to control dreams because they're just as free as in real life.

As I said though, these are purely my own speculations.

This logic has just really boosted my motivation to keep trying to LD.

Interesting speculation. In support of your theory, in my second LD (a couple weeks ago) I flew on the first try without any problems and then melted through a wall (to the accompanyment of the Star Trek transporter noise). Although I did bounce off the wall the first try.

In my third LD, I flew again with no problem and also asked a dream character where Monument Valley was located (cuz I wanted to go there) and he showed me (although it was pretty far away and dim).

And in my fourth LD (last night) the first thing I did after becoming lucid was to make the house stop spinning (cuz it was making me dizzy!).

So I guess my dream control is pretty good for a noob.

I wonder what the heck it means? It is REALLY consistent with me.

I have always been interested in tornados and I think they are extremely cool. When I lived in Illinois as a kid I used to go outside during the tornado warnings cuz I wanted to see one but I never did.

But why the big dream presence? Maybe I need to get lucid and jump into one to find out?

dont use this as a RC, or you might jump into a real tornado!

      Dreams reflect your life.

For example I started piano lessons this year, and pianos are appearing in my dreams for the first time. If you are interested in tornadoes and spend time thinking about them, they will appear in your dreams.

Just be sure to RC everytime you think about them. Its like the game, its annoying, and you look like a dick if you do it in public.

Very good in my opinion. I've had 14 LDs and the only big thing I've ever done was sort of float, like having less gravity, not totally defying it. LDing doesn't come natural to me. You are one of the lucky ones.

That happens with lots of things I do. But this is different. I really don't give any thought to tornados normally. Just like I don't give any thought to being in school in my underwear or seeing my old friends (Other dream signs I have identified). Something is different about tornados.

Hehe. I do an RC every hour when my watch beeps. But I try to be discrete about it. "What is WRONG with that guy? He's always counting his fingers and everytime he looks at his watch he looks twice. Weirdo. Let's beat the crap out of him!"

      I like you already.

      Hmm, Dreams are strange things.

I once had a night were I dreamed 2 dreams about pirates and 2 dreams about a field of wheat.

      Can not be explained.

It might be luck. It also might have to do with me being a serious meditator for the last ten years. I don't have a clue. But I'll take luck any chance I get!

      Fail.

Some probably, but you need not find connections between dreams to make sense of them. You need only to look at your day and see if anything you did could have brought that to your mind's attention.

They make wheat beer but I think it is still barley-based. Maybe it was a field of barley? Or sugar cane! That's what they make rum out of.

I made a thread in SB for making connections between seemingly separate words like we just did.

But we really should get back on topic.

I've had a few moments before where I couldn't distinguish reality from a dream. I'll think remember something that was a dream and be like "oh yea didn't I do that yesterday?" but not be sure about it. Most of the time, if I go along with it, I'll realize something happened that can't happen in waking life.
      Lolwut.
