My Dreams are Reeling Me in!

I have been experimenting with Lucid dreaming for the past few months now. It seems that I have gotten to a point that I am able to recognize that I am in a dream naturally without the use of reality checks; however, I have been finding a strange difficulty becoming lucid. While I become aware of my dreaming, the dream seems to have a strange power over me, almost as if it is trying to reel me back into the mindless plot. It generally does this by incapacitating me, forcing me motionless and unable to use the "spin technique". I have tried changing the scene, but I find that this awakens me. Any ideas?

When you are incapacitated do you keep looking around or do you stare ahead? If you keep looking at one place it makes you wake up (because your eyes are not moving about as they should do in REM sleep). That is all I can think of. I will be interested to see the ideas from more experienced LDers.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

I normally try to move my head or think about a different scene, but it usual fails.

Congratulations! Most people do become lucid without reality checks, only using them to confirm the fact that they're dreaming. As for what's happening to you inside the dream, well, dreams have a wierd habit of doing that. Sometimes when I become lucid, my dreams put obstacles in my way. For example, I'm trying to walk across a field to get to something. I come across a person who needs help: they want me to take their photograph for them. Even though I know I'm dreaming and I can just ignore them, I want to be nice and I take their photo. This wastes dream time, so it's important for me to ignore things like that.

Perhaps try focusing on the smells and scents, and ignore what the dream's trying to do.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I also have noticed that sometimes when I notice I am dreaming, everything becomes black for a second and when I try the spinning technique, I just see my persona (almost like an OBE) doing the action instead of me. I am still awakened because I do not participate in the spinning sensation.

Most plots of dreams are formed at the beginning. Changing Scenes and Blacking Out is a cinematic device. You can't dramatically change delta state scripting, except that which you were meant to change. Keep with the story, please.
