Is this meditation? WILD when first going to bed? I feel weird but I realize I'm not in REM

Every night before I go to bed I attempt a WILD. I lay there and the following stages happen:

      1) Body begins to get uncomfortable and I want to roll over - I ignore it.
      2) Body begins to itch and I want to scratch - I ignore it.
      3) I begin to feel light headed, and time seems to skip roughly 5 minutes at a time, as if I fall asleep for a short while and then awaken (you know how fast time goes by when sleeping). At the same time I feel vibrations.
      4) I either fall asleep or wake up and have to start over.

Last night, for example, I did this for what seemed like 5 minutes, however when I got out of bed and looked at my clock it had been over 30. I have read about meditation books and how you get into an alpha-like state if you just lie there and become peaceful in your mind. It feels as if I could go into a dream, but because I am not in REM sleep it doesn't seem to work.

I have yet to try a WILD for a nap or after several hours of sleep, but I will give it a shot. If I can last this long doing it before going to bed perhaps I can lucid dream on my first few tries.

Also, is it possible to have an OBE or Astral Projection while not in REM? If I can manage this state while first going to bed, can I project myself and have fun with it before falling asleep?

Thanks everyone, good luck with LDing

It sounds like you are just drifting inand ouut of sleep or sleeping very lightly then waking. Of course, I am no expert and especiallya t WILDs. I also would like to say taht even with not being an expert, you NEVER try this before sleeping for some time because your brain is simply too active and you are not rested enough. therefore, if you try to stay aware, you won't fall asleep because of the active thing and if you try to falla sleep, you will falla sleep because you are too tired. As far as I know, only pros can WILD before bed. If anyone sees any error in my reasoning, feel free to correct, as I said I am not an expert on WILDing.

I usually drop dead from exhaustion because of a hard day at work. I never usually sit there and waste time trying to go into a WILD or trying to sleep.

I see what you're saying though. I am not a pro (yet) but I figured why not try to do it before sleeping. I think that if I can master the edge of falling asleep wilding will become much easier, even if I can only get a few hours before trying.

I would like to get into sleep paralysis as well. I have never done so intentionally, but I've gotten it once when I awoke from a dream about 2 years ago. Can I enter SP from a WILD when first trying to go to bed, or do you only consciously enter SP during a nap/during REM?
