It's hard to tell. There is a reality check you can try in OBE. It's looking at your hands, but unlike in LD, in OBE, your hands will start to melt as you looking at them, like a burning candle.

When I looked at my hands in what I thought was an OBE, they didn't melt, but they were made out of translucent energy and quickly became invisible.

Well there are a few different takes on what an OBE is. Some say its just an LD but others say it is when you're on the astral plane and what not, which I believe the latter. Like gab said though, it is hard to tell, it could have just been your mind "tricking" you to think you were having an OBE, but you really were still in an LD. OBE's have a different feeling.

      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

I'm really trying to categorize my experiences into LDs and OBEs, but many times it's near impossible to do.

I had what I think is OBE that started in regular dream. I'm not even sure that's possible, but here it goes.

So, in a regular dream I'm telling someone I need to go to sleep to have LD. Then, in the dream I realized my dream body is hovering over sleeping body. I decided to try and roll out of the bed. So I did. I expected to hit the ground, but instead, some energy force stopped me just a few inches off the ground. I stood up and remembered the experiment I wanted to do next time I'm OOB. So I went around and did what I had planned to do. I also remembered to check my hands and they looked different than in LD. They were see-through energy, slowly getting invisible.

Someone told me, that the difference in what we percieve, (weather we are in LD or OOB) is only in our degree of awareness. That's how we can go from LD to Reg. dream and OBE in one dream. It does make sense to me. But I also believe, that in LD, we are in either our personal 'playground' or in public 'playground' (dream plane), and during OBE, we can be in any of the astral planes, from the one that is closest to our physical world and is almost identical to it, to the planes made out of pure energy inhabited with higher beings.

I think, that since we started to LD, the dreaming state is no longer just that, but has many different layers, depending on our state of awareness. Well, either way, I can't wait to test it all out in my voyages through the unknown.

      Good luck!

As others have said it is hard to tell but it is similar to my own experiences. It's hard to tell from your description whether it was the dream version of your kitchen on the astral plane or whether your consciousness was in your etheric body and you were floating in your real house. In an etheric projection I cannot see my body as others have described.

Sounds like an obe to me. :-D Congrats. To be in a lucid dream and simply have the intent to leave your body is a documented technique in it's self. Going from some random dream scape to floating in a familiar environment can be disorienting but with practice I'm sure you'll get use to it.
