Actual experiences only - please no theorizing, no philosophizing, no arguing, no negating, etc.

People talk about being awake continually from the waking state into the lucid state with no interruption in consciousness. WILD.

I have had an experience of being continually lucid from the dream state into awakening and something amazing happened. I witnessed the rapid assembly of my awake personality. There is the “me” of the dream state and it is a different “me” when I am awake. The me of the awake state has to be a certain way, the way I was raised, the way I want to be seen and the way people expect me to be, working within the constraints of the personality I have created all my life.

The perception of this process was exactly like getting dressed. Just as the different articles of clothing are assembled in a particular order, so too the aspects of personality were assembled piece by piece, although there were many more pieces and it happened extremely fast. If I was guessing, I would say there were over 1,000 aspects assembled in little more than a second. It was like watching a video of a skyscraper getting built in fast motion.

I realized that this happens every time I wake up. The thing being assembled is what I would call the “false self”, the ego, the identity I utilize to survive in the world. I saw it get assembled so that I could go out into the world and exist as a typical human being, fitting in the way I am supposed to. Anyone who wants a taste of this can simply notice what changes between having your eyes open (what that feels like in all its complexity) and what changes from simply closing your eyes. A shift occurs in the qualities of consciousness. The shift I describe is like that times 1,000.

I would like to hear from others that have some direct experience with this phenomena. I have read lots of philosophy, eastern mysticism and new age theories, so I am not really interested in debating their merits as they apply to this question or any other.

I would prefer to only hear reports from people who are making discoveries in their own direct experience, not from those interested in debating concepts they have heard about and have opinions about.

      thanks for your understanding,

      JJ

In my direct experience, stifling conversation before it can begin will preemptively ward off the very people who are likely to have experienced, and are willing to share, a similar phenomena.

In my direct experience, there are countless way to interpret any given deeply personal experience--given the nature of experience itself--and to seek an echo chamber for such experiences is often a fool's gambit; even the interpretations of like-minded people tend to differ.

      Hi there.

While I haven't noticed that "dressing" shift you describe, I can certainly relate to the different persona of the dream self. Is your dream ego also more child-like and innocent?

      Very interesting topic, btw!

Yes, what was so interesting about it was to witness the complex construct of the ego personality being assembled so rapidly. Most people believe that "who they are" is something real, but to see it assembled like that had me realize that the ego personality is what the dream mind is doing when we are awake. It is kept busy maintaining the dream that what we experience as ourselves in waking life is real.

If the dream mind can create the lucid experience as rapidly as it does, then keeping the illusion of self-identity going while we are awake seems like an explanation for what those mind powers are doing when we aren't asleep.

Has anyone heard of any dream researchers explain that the dream mind is kept busy during waking hours by constructing our identity? This would explain a lot. So yes, Moonage, once you strip away all the personality clutter, what remains is pretty intriguing!

I want to see what it would be like to live through this body without utilizing all the encumbrances of the ego personality. They really are a bit of a straightjacket, but its hard to imagine what it would be like to live with them deactivated.

Now you do the philosophizing yourself, Frank!
But actually - I think there is something to it - that the "dream-machine" keeps on working the in the waking state - taking a substantial part in creating real-life experience.
Could well be, that it does something to hold together one's identity-concept, too.
Oh - but riight - I'll stop philosophizing now... Steph off and out!
