I used to get a lot of sleep paralysis as well, although I haven't had it for awhile now. I never experienced the neck spasms but always got loud buzzing sounds in my head like electrical noise.
I've probably had over 100 episodes of sleep paralysis, so I've also experimented while in it pretty extensively. In the beginning I was always trying to move my limbs to break the paralysis which never used to succeed in breaking it but did produce some very interesting effects. Initially, I would put all my will and energy into moving my arm and through sheer effort I managed one day to move it slowly from the side of my body up to my face... but to my surprise, even though I could feel my hand infront of my face, I could only see an energetic outline of my hand.
I repeated this in subsequent sleep paralysis episodes and the results were always the same. I could move my hand and touch my face, but when I looked down my arm was still in the same place unmoved. One day I even turned around completely in my bed and faced the opposite direction and saw the other side of the room as you would normally, but then looked down at my body and realised that I was looking at my back and that my actual head was facing the other way. What's interesting about this incident is I heard a ripping noise like velcro when I turned around in my body. Very strange indeed.
