I know this is a ton of questions so feel free to just answer to what you most resonate with
It is not about what ego did wrong or did not do wrong. Right now every your question and concern is in its roots attached to you, to your ego, and its not the reason to say that ego is bad. But living with that anchor attached to you all the time makes you live in a tunnel vision style. By letting it go you will experience life in a different way.
So now when you will be here and now, you will not have to abandon it in order to enjoy ego. Instead you will enjoy ego as a toy, a toy that you know is a toy and you can get rid of it any time you want.
Anyway, I think we are all here talking of a different thing. I was baptized when I was small, but it wasn't my choice and I do not pay much attention to that. I am not following any religion and did not know anything about Buddhism on my way there and I am not following Buddhism now when I know some of ideas that I have match what Buddhism is about. So I don't want to judge what is Buddha doing and whether he is bored or not.
Coming back to roots of this question, you are looking at the ultimate destination. Ego or no ego, here and now or not.. As soon as you will arrive there you will loose all interest and think what is next. Because it is not about the final destination, all the fun is on your way there and I think the journey is worth it. See how ironical it is, you were thinking of what is there and why ego is bad and now you know why.. You are looking at the final destination and missing everything that is on the way there. If it was so, the ultimate achievement in this life would be death and everyone would die as soon as they could.
