I think its cool, but have you guys ever heard about like links between people that arent in the same family?

cause I have shared dreams all the time, but its with my best friend, we are really close but I have never met any two people that do what we do, its like we both know what the other is thinking or going to do before either of us do it, like one time we were cooking dinner for our girlfriends and I went to add some onions and he was in the pantry and befor i put the onions in the pan he yelled that the onions don't go in for a while still, some people think that we are just together so much that we know eachothers personalities and habits, but I disagree, other times it has been really freaky,
like when we were in our history class taking a test and I didnt know the answer, all I had to do was make eye contact with him and the answer just popped into my head, or vise versa, it could be a coincidence but we use this to pass lots of our tests

I don't know, I think its pretty cool, that we have that sort of a connection, but neither of us can do this with any other people, so I don't really get it, are we both like psychic, or is it that our minds are just on the same wavelength or something?

In the morning my son came in to wake me up and so I asked him what he dreamt last night. I asked him without telling anything of my dreams while I was thinking about this dream I'd had. Anyway my son said he dreamt that he was a big shark, and that there was a big t-rex in the ocean which was so big it's feet were touching the ground but its head was still out of the water. He said he was eating the t-rex's feet first because the head could still bite so he started there and ate him all up. Then he said he ate a scuba diver up too. So I asked him if it was night time or day time and he said it was dark after he had eaten the t-rex.

Anyway I dreamt last night that I was in the ocean(had fallen from a boat I think)with another person who I didnt know but was a friend. The light was just fading and the water was getting pretty dark and scary and when I looked down I saw one of the biggest sharks I've ever seen. It swam right under my feet(like almost touching them) and it was just huge(like a whale size almost).. Anyway the person next to me started to get eaten by his feet and he was screaming and I was panicking and didnt go lucid at all and was just trying to figure out how to survive. Anyway I started to swim away because I thought maybe if I got far enough away the shark would only eat him. But I felt kinda bad because he was a friend and I thought its probably going to get me too, so I turned around with the intention to try to punch the shark in the head while he was eating so maybe I could scare it off. Anyway my friend got eaten quickly and I was just left floating in the water waiting for my turn.. I dont actually remember getting eaten.. it was like the dream ended there. I do have a vague memory of climbing onto a boat but I think that was a later dream.. I'm not sure.

I had a few more dreams and one of someone wanting to skydive, but my last dream was of me jumping off a boat and onto the sand of the shore to which I just rolled on with my back like how a cat does.. stretching in the sun.. I was so happy to be on the shore I just rolled around infront of everyone for awhile like a crazy man which I could see they were thinking but it was only because I was so happy to be on the shore.

So yeah.. it was pretty trippy because I dont dream of swimming in the ocean with sharks very often, and it was the first time I think my son has ever dreamt he was a feeding shark. So for us to both dream those dreams the same night spun me out. I think I mustve been the scuba diver which got eaten after he ate my friend which in his dream was the t-rex which I guess he got from his t-rex teddy bear he slept with last night.. But I'm not sure if I got eaten or not.. I did make it to shore later so yeah.. either way it was a scary dream and all day I've just been thinking how my son(5yr)dreamt that he was a shark.. I mean.. omg.. he was bigger than me when I dreamt I was a shark once.

Anyway it was nice timing or something for sure, and I feel like I'm a proud father kinda because I shifted to the shark maybe a year ago now... but he is only five years old.. So I was impressed.. and pretty bloody scared during my dream. lol

It's like all day I've been thinking .. you little devil to scare me like that.

So if that was indeed a shared dream then your son ate you? :p

I have had several dreams in which I was some monstrous thing and do something horrible. Afer I wake up I have this instant wtf? effect. Like "why in the heck did I do that"?

Anyone sle have dreams like that?

      Interesting thread.

My friend swears she shared a dream with someone while she was in college. It was an elaborate dream (I won't go into it here) that must have been pretty vivid because it stuck in her mind. Sometime later (years) she met a guy who she became 'close' to and they got talking about dreams. He started to tell her about this vivid dream he'd had years before, and they quickly realised they'd had the same dream, but from a different perspective! I believe her, she's not the type to make things up... but it still seems incredible. Especially as they were strangers at the time the dream happened.

Mind you, if you beleive in past lives, then I suppose they might have met previously

yeah i remember my dad used to always tell me a story about how when him and his friend stayed overnight in seattle together when they were like 20 or something and they stayed in a really bad motel and they went to sleep and they both woke up at the exact same time and they both had a dream about a guy in the corner of the room eating an alive bird

I wonder if you have to be born with the bond or related to the person (i.e. twins, parents, children, etc) or if it can be formed with someone very close to you like a best friend or spouse.

OH! That reminds me of a story that was in Yahoo News a couple weeks ago. This lady was having a dream and someone gave her a set of numbers or something like that. When she woke up, the numbers were like burned into her memory so she wrote them down and realized that it was a phone number. So she called it and ended up meeting this guy who she eventually married. fun fun

      Great thread..

I'm a newbie here & to the topic of lucid dreams, but even prior to looking up info and learning more, I had already wondered if it's possible to share dreams, because it seems like I may have had quite a few of these in the past. It's hard to know for sure, since none of my friends/family seem to have much dream recall &/or interest in the topic (which is why I've turned to forums), but there have been a few things that have really made me wonder...

Like being surprised to see a friendly acquaintance in a dream that also surprisingly had a character from a movie (The Green Mile) in it. ...then when I saw the kid at work a day or 2 later, he starts talking about someone that looked like the same character and had the nickname "Green Mile". I was tempted to mention my dream, but he was having sex with his girlfriend when I encountered him in the dream, so I was a little concerned that he might wonder why I was dreaming of him and his girl like that (same thing I was wondering, honestly) Now that I think of it, maybe it wasn't precognitive of the conversation, but he was thinking about the same thing when he saw me (IRL) because he had a similar dream, and maybe when we bumped into each other in dreamland, he had just been dreaming about his girl before joining me (at my childhood home, a place he couldn't have known)

...or being in another dream with my brother, then reading it to him a few days later. He didn't say anything indicating that he had the same dream, but something that didn't make sense to me in it, made better sense to him... "he's having trouble ripping plastic wrap & I see it's cause he's suddenly wearing thick black gloves. I wonder why he's wearing them, then notice there's suddenly snow on the hillside". I stopped reading when I noticed a change in his expression and he said that it sounded like his thick, black tattoo gloves that he had when he lived up north. He was pretty sure (where I'm pretty un-certain) that he mentioned them before, but even if he did it was a year or 2 ago at least. Maybe we were both having dreams about each other, and somehow influencing each others' dreams.

...or when a grandmother I hardly knew or even really wanted to know (she was very un-pleasant & grumpy) came to stay with us for awhile, I had the STRANGEST dreams for 3 nights straight, that were so alien (even literally) to me that they were pretty disturbing/frightening.

...or going to sleep knowing that my brother's girlfriend was coming down, but forgetting that she was bringing a dog (they arrived soon after I went to sleep & were sleeping when I awoke). I'm having a strange dream about me & my bro going to see some mystical place, where this mystical girl shows us all kinds of hybrid creatures (beginning with something real... a Liger, and my imagination took it from there. I woke up when, sitting/talking looking out across the water, we see an enormous fish jumping straight up in the sky, & I'm amazed, looking at the others like "Can you believe what we're seeing right now?" as the scales of it's belly just keep rushing by... when someone knocks on the door and wakes me up. It was another couple minutes, after using the bathroom before I noticed the dog and thought "So YOU're the reason I was dreaming about such wild creatures." I know it sounds ridiculous, but our pets obviously dream too, and if it's possible for people to share and/or influence each others' dreams, I wonder if it's possible to share dreams with another species even.

...so I have an example of a possible shared dream with an acquaintance (always thought he was an OK guy, just didn't know him very well at the time), with family close and distant, and maybe even with a dog. I've had some pretty vivid, trippy dreams about my ex-girlfriend, and noticed signs that she may have just been dreaming about me too (she usually soon shows up, or writes me, or I'll see someone that knows her and they'll say she was just talking about me), but if we really were having the same dream, I haven't specifically asked her about it. I'm trying to pay more attention now, and looking for more opportunities to talk about dreams w/ people I know, so hopefully soon I'll have a better idea about these things, and if I notice anything else interesting I'll come back & post. Thanks everyone, for the interesting posts.

      Hi Nfo,

I think that mutual dreaming is much more common than we think! There is a yahoogroups group called iasd_dreamspirit that has a monthly exercise on mutual dreaming, trying to join together to maybe dream a solution to a world problem. They then compare all the dreams they each dreamed on the target night, and it's fascinating to read the intersections and associations. The dreams are never exactly the same, but there will be things in them that are alike, that interconnect. And these are people who are not family or close friends, just people connected by an internet email list.

There is also an IASD member named Jean Campbell who has another yahoogroups list called WorldDreams, I think, anyway her website is: <www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/>, and she has written a book about mutual dreaming. She is a former president of the IASD, and very involved in their Psiber Conferences, which focuses on PSI or psychic dreaming.

I think, too, that often with family and friends, we work out issues that we can't seem to work out in waking life during our dreams. That may sound funny, but have you ever noticed that all of a sudden, something that was a BIG problem with a family member seems to have just mysteriously ceased being a problem? I think it's because we work it out during dreamtime. We're more open then, we're less inclined to need to "win" then, we're more malleable then. It makes sense, really!

And yeah, I know that feeling that family is not interested in the topic well! Even my son whose vacations I dream doesn't seem to get it. I can tell where he went, describe it, tell him some of the things he was doing, but he doesn't seem very interested at all! I think it's fascinating. LOL!

I used to share dreams with my Siberian Husky, Shaman, all the time, so yes, it's quite possible to share dreams with other species. My Pomeranian, Lily, is more direct. She just sends psychic messages, even one verbal one in English her first day here, when she told me, "I love being in this small body; I can run in the house and no one scolds me!" Oh, really! She's too cute. Most of her messages are pictures or recently smells so I know when she needs to go potty. I told her Shaman did that by leading me to the back door. I don't think she was impressed.

I think it's a mistake to expect that a shared dream will be identical, or that the only proof of shared dreaming is if it is identical. You can be in the same dream, and still have a lot of your own stuff showing up in yours, while the other person has different other stuff showing up in theirs, just like when we're in a room talking, we each have different things flowing through our minds. The conversation we're having together doesn't mean there aren't other things going on that are separate at the same time. Remember, dreams take place in our minds, and our minds are busy little places!

I'm glad the forum owners provided this section, even if they seemingly did it because they don't personally believe in it! I hope they at least read it and think about it!

That's awesome that you have shared dreams with your pets.

Have you ever read The Sense of Being Stared At? I think you'd really like that book.
