No Neo, I'm telling you that when you're ready, you won't have to.

      What I meant was...

If bruises and swelling are your body's way of protecting itself againest further harm - then if you truly beleive you are hurt and in danger, then couldent your body functions be affected?

You have a dream that you fall and hurt your knee, (after all, pain is in your head, right?) so to prevent further harm, and if the beleive is real enough, your body swells the knee to protect it from further harm.

Does any of that make sense?

pain ISNT in your head. Your brain interprets the pain... the sensors or whatever where you recieve the injury are what causes the pain... GCSE biology out the window

Lol stuff GCSE, i do A-level kay!? xD

Anyway yea you are right. But perhaps we both are.

I would not expect someone to wake up with cut skin or broken bones (unless they DO move around) - but swelling..bruising even? Maybe. I could just be rambling on but all the brain needs to take action is some sort of imput from a pain receptor, as you said. So in a dream, if you seriously beleive you are injured, maybe your sleeping patterns are messed up, your sleeping shallow, REM cycles are all over the place because of a fever or something - could your brain take action againest the non-existant pain?

If humans can control the ability to turn pain off, can we also turn it on?

(Side note - Im trying to provoke thought, not prove a point or debate an arguement.)

i have noticed that if you are completely relaxed you do not feel pain.(at least i don't.)if i don't know i have cut myself it doesn't hurt at all but if i look down and see the the blood i am like ,ouch!
I think that if you are able to completely relax your body will not feel pain.I also think this is what those monks do so they do not feel the pain of burning themselves.

try examining your body before going to bed and then whe you wake up examine it again, document any new wounds in the space between going to bed and waking up. then see how many of them are previous to sleep, then share and let the comunity draw some conclusions

Only real time i've awoke with a wound was when I was going through a sleep deprived phase and was having extremely violent "occurances" during sleep which scared me cause my father used to sleep walk very often. I had kicked a wall in my sleep breaking half my toe-nail. I also had issues around this time of talking in my sleep and even screaming some rather profane things which was odd because I was only 9.

As for a basis of sleep scarr'ing with no ifluence other than the dreams I believe it's entirely possible. I've been a smoker for awhile now and typically when I get up I want to go smoke. When i'm able to remember(rarely) my dreams and i'm smoking in my dreams I typically won't have the urge to smoke until much later in the day.(I know... I know addiction so bad you dream about it)

Kind of a bad example but the point I was trying to make with it is. The power of the mind is alot more than most people give it credit for.

yeah makes sence, but if its just bruises and cuts, then that's nothing really dangering you. Unless the cuts started to become super deep.

I've kept a dream journal on paper for (not too long) about 5 months. And I've always been able to remember my dreams so yeah, : shifts eyes : I donno about anyone else out there with that problem, but I've always thought it was just like some sort of spirit fighting you in your unconscious or something.

But I've often heard that's crazy talk so THE END! haha

i can tell you what this is, wether you choose to believe me or not is up to you. anyways, when you sleep, you alstrally project yourself, hence, you are on the astral plain. although your probably not aware of that so you probably float above your body and not do anything. anyways, the thing floating above your body is your soul. if your soul takes damage, your physical body will take damage. so, there must a spirit or "ghost" that hurts you while you sleep. i got t othe astral plains alot and fight spirits and come back with scars and bruises and what not. its not uncommon, well, the astral thing is lol but not the bruises and cuts and such.

Old days, my bed was cornered next to a wall so somehow I get cuts on my hands sometimes becuz I was moving around on bed when I was sleeping. ( i dk what I was doing when I was sleeping but it just has to do with the wall, just like getting a paper cut on hands -.-)

but right now, my bed isn't placed next to a wall so I don't have weird scratches anymore.

but then again maybe ur case is different from mine.
