I don't understand why you would want to avoid it, but I can give you some advice.

Being afraid of an OBE is a bad idea.Track with me here, In an environment where YOUR brain provides essentially all the data used to create everything you experience you must thoughtfully be aware that the regular flow of data has been reversed, what this means to you is that whatever and however you determine to feel about the environment will be reflected in the environment itself. Now that isn't a problem if you are thinking happy things, because then your environment is happy.....HOWEVER if you are not thinking happy things if instead you are fearful your environment will become twisted, and terrifying and because you are used to reacting emotionally to your environment and not used to your environment reacting to you, you may react again and again and every time you may find your environment is more terrifying than it was before.

      I speak from personal experience.

It is best to be able to develop emotional indifference to the changes in this environment, thats the only way to stabilize the condition totally. On one last note I am not among the camp that believes the so called OBE is actually the event of being out of ones body, I am pretty convinced it is only a perceptual experience. So there isn't anything to be afraid of, now that you know, just remain in control of your emotions.
