Post On dream guides and shared dreaming:

Hey, I know this is my first post but I think this website ties into something that I have been thinking about for a while.

When you think you next thought, or say your next word, concentrate on an area on the back of your head. When I do this, I noticed something prompting me on what to say or think. The thing is, it never tells me to do anything against my will, and I can disobey it if I want to. I call this “back thought,” and believe it is actually how your subconscious manifests itself.
So, onto dreaming. I have heard several people talking about dream guides. I simply think that when your brain is not having to monitor any senses, this “back thought” is given a face and a personality. I have no way to test any of this, so this is hypothetical. Now, when you lucid dream, you can change what you are doing. This is because you are essentially in fantasyland, and your brain realizes that. Thus, the “back thought” prompting you turns into an actually being, or at least the closest thing you can get to actuality in a dream, so you can understand it better. Some other people have also said they’ve met other versions of themselves. I think this is just you being prompted differently by “back thought.”

I have also heard that some people have had shared dreams. I think this happens for one of two reasons: your brains have had similar stimuli before going to bed, or a conscious effort. In both cases, your brains link, sort of like two Nintendo DS’s can link. When you are doing this, you are using more brain power than normal, but this is undetectable by any machine. It is kind of like your brain encrypted and then hid the data so only the intended receiver can view it.

A friends experience with linked dreaming: He was playing crazy capture the flag with weapons. Evidently, some girl came parachuting in, told him he had nice hair, and then disappeared. He told me he somehow knew she was another person. I think they must have watched the same TV shows, read the same book, watched the same movie or something of the sort so they linked. This connection could be easily abused or easily help somebody. Now, an experiment: Every time you lucid dream for the next month or so, try to appear on a huge, octagonal stadium. This stadium should be painted eight different colors: Blue, Light Blue, Green, Light Green, Yellow, White, Red, and Maroon. This stadium is scattered with weapons, and when hit in a way that you would normally die from, you simply re-appear at your colored area. Once you get there, get onto a colored area and change you clothing so it matches you area. Then, go beat the crap out of the other teams. When you are done, post about it on this topic. Let’s see what happens!

Again, this is all hypothetical, so please don’t yell at the newbie!

It's an interesting theory you have on shared dreaming, and that's exactly what I thought it was like, until I started doing it. Now, I realize it's another plane of existence.
The stadium is a cool idea for shared dreaming. There is a place like that we go to to battle people for fun, called the Outer Realms.

The first step is for people to just meet up in a dream. Focus on that first, just meeting up with one person, then you can move on from there into group shared dreaming.

Okay, checked out if another plane of existence is possible. Scientificaly speaking, it is probobly not. But hey, if it works, I really don't care. I'm going to have to experience one on my own to decide, I guess.

I have been having the same ideas for several months now and recently starting getting together with other people trying to share dreams. Big emphasis on "trying" :/

In alot of other shared dream topics people are meeting on the moon.
Maybe make this stadium on the moon?

i consider myself scientifically oriented but i also have an open mind. i've been reading about this shared dreaming phenomenon and i simply don't understand how it is possible - can anyone give me insight into how it occurs?
more importantly, though, have people here on DV actually confirmed the reliability of this phenomenon? i.e. have people independently recalled mutual dreams without any prompting from the other participants? i'd be eager to explore something like this

I had no idea that shared dreaming existed either, I'll have to do some reading up on this.

Regarding the original post- that's a really great concept!! Granted, I'm still very curious about shared dreaming. Naturally, I'm skeptical about it, but only from a standpoint of curiosity. I really want to try it and have it work for me, because it seems like a life-changing experience.

To trev- yes, Walking Nomad has confirmed being able to do this and has a collection of shared dreams he's had.

YYNYM, I like your idea of what dream guides are- I have always had a very very similar view of that, though I admit to being ignorant on the subject of "back thought." I've never heard of it. Could you elaborate a little bit on that, and what it is?

this “back thought” can be another being actually, sometimes, it's a being that was separated from you for ages, and that came back , then it's " another version of you , but quite diferent" after some time you can merge with that part of yourself and learn new things, be more sensible, fusions help alot.

I have a dream guide also , he's a fluffy dragon , well he looks like that xD.
      Are you dreaming?

That seems a very confident statement... Do you know this for a fact?

The only theories regarding "back thought" that I've ever heard are centered around the hypothesis that by focusing your awareness on a place behind your brain, you stimulate certain lobes of the brain that are responsible for more subconscious activity. Whether that's true or not, at least that would be a semi-logical explanation.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't understand how you came to that conclusion at all. Elaborate?

I really have no idea what "back thought" really is. You have to really focus on the back of your brain, right behind the prefortnal cortex (I think) to hear it. It really is just what you would normally say, and sometimes provides you with information that you bring to your "Front Thought." Focus on the back area of your brain when you type, you'll hear it, but only very faintly. hte other versions of yourself are really just you if a random number generator that was controlling you generated a different Number. Just another thing you could have said or done.

That's the one. It also seems to control my pet peeve toward Improper grammar. Okay, so my Internet grammar sucks, but my spoken grammar is pretty good. And I'm proud of that. (I don't mind improper written grammar.)
