    1. Attempts at DEILD Dreaming

      by , 11-23-2011 at 05:07 AM
A week or so ago, I noticed that I had briefly woken from a dream, then re-entered the dream when I fell back to sleep. There was no lucidity, but I managed to go back to the same dream. Thanks to this awesome site, I've learned that I experienced something similar to what's called a DEILD, a Dream-Exit Induced Lucid Dream, or chain-dreaming. I decided to use this method as a means of getting lucid.

Last night I had a dream that guy friend from the UK (who I've crushed on for a while) spontaneously showed up on my front porch. We hung out for a while, and then he insisted on giving me a back massage. IT WAS NOTHING DIRTY SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GUTTER YA PERV. So he gives me a back massage, and it feels really nice, but then I woke up.

I was rather enjoying that dream, so I tried to go back to it by laying still and focusing on what I remembered dreaming. Things kinda went awry, but not terribly so. Instead of the back massage, my friend and I ended up with some other friends in a magical elevator. It would take us to a floor that led to a store in a mall, then a floor that led to a rainforest, then a floor that was in the future.

Clearly, I still have some work to do on this technique. But at least I have a start.
    2. Father put on trial in church

      by , 11-14-2011 at 05:44 AM
I finally had a dream not involving college. Hooray!

I dreamed that members of my dad's church had put him "on trial" for some reason, and were holding the "trial" at the church where I grew up. I sat next to my dad, who was seated in front of the congregation, to show my support.

My uncle who died last year made a surprise appearance in the front pew, and he started yelling at the pastor who was leading the "trial", and calling him out on a lot of crap. This led to a bit of an uproar, and Dad and I just sat uncomfortably. Eventually the chaos died down. Dad was found guilty of...something, and led away to holy jail or whatever. I have no idea. I tried to voice my anger, but my voice wasn't working.

What was really interesting about this dream was that I would wake up in real life, drift back to sleep, and be back in the same dream. One minute I'm awake, and the next minute I'm talking with my dead uncle. It was really interesting. I think I can use this to help induce lucidity.

    3. Back in college again? Seriously?

      by , 11-13-2011 at 06:42 AM
Okay, subconscious. I get it. There's something important in my life pertaining to academics and/or college. Thank you. Can I have a new theme to my dreams please?

Well, in this particular dream, I was in a class being taught by my real-life boss. She seemed nervous, but got confident as she spoke. Afterward, other people in the class (they were a mix of real-life college and high school friends) talk about how they want to drop her class. I try to convince them not to, but I considered changing one of my classes to "Advanced Powerpoint". Weird, right? I apparently really wanted to learn about Powerpoint presentations.

I'm in the student union with my friends grabbing something to eat, when this guy who looks a lot like Orlando Bloom comes up to me and starts chatting me up. He asks me to pick out dice of a certain color. He wanted to use them at a friend's wedding for some reason, and couldn't decide on a color. He only had two dice in his hand, but they kept changing color. It was really cool. I chose a really surreal deep mauve sort of color. Then we flirted for a bit. Aw yeah.

Man, I hope my dreams start getting more interesting. Maybe the problem is how I'm going to sleep really late and surfing the web right before I go to bed. I need to change that.

    5. Possible New Dream Sign/Recurring Theme

      by , 11-08-2011 at 05:25 AM
For the past few nights, I've had dreams about writing and learning to improve my handwriting. the night before last, I dreamed I was in a house taking part in a calligraphy class. Last night, I dreamed I was back in grade school (although I wasn't any younger), learning to write in cursive for a contest.

I wonder what this means, if anything. My handwriting has always been a bit of an annoyance to me. It hasn't changed since fourth grade, and sometimes people find it impossible to read. Maybe my subconscious is using that as a symbol of something else going on in my life.

Or maybe not. Maybe it's just "dream gibberish". But the fact that it's happened two nights in a row really intrigues me.

    6. Searching for a Veil for a Very Deserving Bride

      by , 11-05-2011 at 06:44 AM
I think I have to blame this dream on my mom's addiction to cooking competition shows, and perhaps a bit on my own weird fascination with wedding planning shows.

I dreamed that my mother and I were in our living room, watching a wedding show or a cake-making show or something. Think something you'd see on TLC. The wedding cake that had been made was amazing, it looked just like the carriage from Disney's Cinderella. Unfortunately, the bride wasn't able to cut the cake for some reason, and the bakers had a short amount of time to fix it for her. The bride had cancer, and her chemo treatment had made her bald. She wanted a new bridal veil, but I can't remember why. One of the bakers on the TV points out to my mother and me and says "Why don't you help us?"

Bam. Suddenly my mom and I are inside the television/in the environment of the show. The cake designer tells us to find a new veil. We find ourselves in a huge city (NYC maybe?) and being the country bumpkins that we are, we're totally out of our element. We vigilantly look for a veil though. Under benches. In mailboxes. Inside newsstands. Totally logical places to look for a bridal veil, right? (/sarcasm)

We ended up on the outskirts of the city. It was a very desolate wasteland. This is when I woke up and had to start my day, which was disappointing. I would've loved to gone further in the dream, or maybe even attempt to become lucid and make the veil magically appear to see what would happen as a result.

    7. A rather upsetting dream about work...

      by , 11-01-2011 at 03:48 AM
I literally started the entry for this dream in my notebook with "No sir, I didn't like it."

The dream started in an incredibly ornate, huge room in a huge building on a really upscale street. The room was immense. I can still remember it vividly because everything was so beautiful, from the blue silk wallpaper to the all-white furniture. I was sitting on a sofa, wondering why I was there. Two little girls in the next room over were putting on ballerina costumes. I asked them if they were getting ready for Halloween, and they told me they were actually getting ready for dance class. I leave this fancy building, and go to work.

Important fact about me: In real life, I work in a big daycare facility. The building is an old two-story high school, and each room serves a particular age group, from infants to preschoolers. I work in one of the toddler rooms.

One of our little boys comes in with his father. He looks really scuffed up and scared. His father tells us that the boy had been lost in the woods for nine hours. Dad didn't seem too upset by this, but I was. I was like "Your poor baby! Is he okay? Why is he even here today?" The boy even had a bruise on his back from an animal that attacked him in the woods. But no one, not my co-workers nor the boy's father, seemed at all concerned.

I walk to the bathroom. This is where it got really freaky. I see one of the infants in the sink, fully submerged underwater. She had turned blue.

Suddenly a co-worker is with me in the bathroom, helping me to get her out of the sink and trying to revive her. Nothing helps. We carry her body to my classroom, and all the while I'm sobbing.

No one else is upset that a baby has somehow drowned at work. They tell me that the nurse will take care of her, and her body is suddenly gone. She comes back with the nurse, and although she still looks really pale, she's alive and walking. Everyone in the room (The nurse, my co-workers, and the little boy's father) look at me and say "See? No big deal."

I wonder if this dream applies to my job at the moment, and how. Do I feel like some people are being apathetic to real problems? Am I being oversensitive to little things? Definitely things to ponder.

As I write my Dream Journal, I'm noticing more and more ways to realize I'm in a dream. For example, the co-worker randomly appearing in the bathroom (a male co-worker at that...scandalous!), rooms I've never seen and so on. I need to get better at noticing these little dream quirks. I WANT TO GO LUCID DANGIT!
