Lucid dreaming for me is a way to try and escape the horrors of my dreams (technically nightmares but seeing as how I've only ever had nightmares I just call them dreams)

The last lucid dream I had was about a week ago. I was standing in a building and I could feel that something bad was about to happen. I remember thinking that I was not in the mood for my bad dreaming and that what I really wanted to do was to fly, because the dreams where I have the ability to fly are the closest to a happy dream I will ever come. I stood at the door staring into the sky thinking "Fly. Fly! FLY!" and I was beginning to think I wouldn't be able to until I slowly, but surely, started to lift into sky. I got above the trees when I started to remember my past reactions to flying dreams; I tend to freak out when I get too high. Remembering this, of course, made me freak out and I started to descend. This disappointed me and I started to concentrate my hardest on staying up and after hard work, and many roller coaster like motions, I finally managed to fly straight and confident, leaving all my inhibitions behind me, not to mention the on coming tragedy of what staying in that empty building would have brought. I flew for the entire dream until I woke up, relieved that I didn't have to suffer through another nightmare.

This dream made me particularly relieved because usually in my lucid dreams I'm only able to change details that are already happening as an attempt to make them less scary or more convenient, like making something pop up or someone change to make the events easier to get through, but this time I was able to change the dream entirely making it a completely different dream. That rarely ever happens. I'm happy that I was able to avoid the bad things but I also usually prefer to avoid these types of lucid dreams because I enjoy interpreting my dreams to see what my subconscious is trying to bring to my attention. Beggars can't be choosers I guess .
