Failed DEILD attempt turned into poor recall

    by , 04-19-2014 at 02:10 PM (568 Views)
Last night, I set an alarm at 3.30 am to attempt a DEILD. The alarm is very gentle and I made it turn itself off after a minute. It woke me up as expected, but my first reflex was to switch it off. I quickly remembered my goal and prevented myself from moving too much. I lied on my back and waited for the alarm to shut up.

When it did, I was feeling really groggy and thought it would be easy to get into a dream. Suddenly I was worried that maybe it was too early and I would still enter a deep sleep state, therefore making the whole thing unworthy. Despite my efforts to stay awake, I soon lost consciousness and woke up at 8 am with only a small fragment of a dream in mind. And as far as I can tell, I wasn't lucid in it. Dammit.

Needless to say, any advice is most welcome

Hi ! 1 minute is too much i think. I use 2 / 3 seconds. And i set it to ring every 15/30 minutes after or 6 or more hours of sleep.
Sometimes it hits during REM sleep and thatīs when it may help of course. Sooner or later you will be able to slip back to the dream, or just feel like you can get out of bed with a dream body.

Tip: if you set it to ring too early in the night - yes, you may have a irresistible impulse to switch off. So, try with 6 or 7 hours of sleep, which, btw, is when you are most likely dreaming.

      Hope that helps !

Okay, I will try the alarm thing. Just one question: if you set it to go off every 30 minutes and at some point it wakes you up and the DEILD goes well, wouldn't you be awakened again when the alarm sounds 30 minutes afterwards?

As for the time, I did try to do it at 5.30 am, that I usually wake up normally, but I ended up waking up completely. I'll try to find a midle point.

      Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, you may wake up again but it's unlikely your DEILD will last 30 min. Not that it's impossible. Indeed, i think it's Sivason ( who also uses this method ) who can have 1 hour DEILDs. But even if you do, it should be easier to slip back again, since you're DEILding from a lucid.

If you choose a shorter ringing time, you wonīt wake up as much - but that may always happen.
Also, the alarm can be annoying sometimes - especially as i said, if you set an early timing - as you may be enjoying your sleep so much - and the alarm becomes nothing but an enemy

It requires a little patient to find one's best setting and timings, and ringtones, and so on. But i think it's worth a try.

You may like to check the thread on my signature, if you havenīt done so - i think it's a very good one, and that's why i have it on my sig

Yeah, I read your guide some days ago, I was looking for information before I attempted it myself ^^

I'll try this method, I've heard it's a quite easy one
