Well, it's best to do just one mantra per day. To make it clear to you mind what you want. So if you can't wake up on your own at night, use mantra for that, until you start noticing these small micro-awakenings we all have after every REM. Or until you get into habit of waking up on your own from mantras.

You can also try and set your intent instead of mantra. Maybe you have noticed, that if you have to get up at unusuall hour, and you tell yourself "man, I gotta get up at x hour", then you will wake up close to that set time. When i do this, I wake up a few times before, until I wake up at set time.

Or you can try and drink water before bed and then every time when you get up. I did this last night and woke up 3 times - each time with a long dream in my memory. It may not work for everybody, but it's worth the try.

So set your intent to wake up and then use a mantra for a DILD.

I got my first DILD after barely 1/2 a day of practicing the awareness question, RCs and mantras. So I'm not sure I got it from that practice. What I think really helped me, that I was super excited. I wasn't like "what if I have a LD". I was more like "omg, I'm having LD tonight". There is a difference between a wish and solid intent.

I have had about 50 DEILD. But they were all from a LD, none from regular dream. My first DEILD was the same night I have read about getting into another LD, when you unexpectedly wake up from a LD. As I was waking up, I suddenly remembered what to do and got DEILD. So for me, it's more of a wait for right conditions. I can't really get into DEILD from regular dream, it just has to happen for me by itself.

What I have found happening for me is that I remember a lot's of things from tutorials when in a dream/waking up state. It looks like the more you read about something and think about something, more likely it is to happen for you.

Too much effort - you can keep practicing, but don't wish it too much. More like be cool and KNOW that you can do it. Don't wish, KNOW. Good luck. Please ask if I didn't touch up on something.
