you can write down at night what you want to dream about to get it imprinted into your brain and you can do mantras like "i dream about zombies"

or you can fall asleep playing nazi zombies
      Smoke weed and dream on!

Like rkenning said, mantras can work for some people. And watch movies related to what kind of dreams you want to have; think lots about it, too. If you want to have a dream about Pandora, for example, watch Avatar a few times and think about it alot; it might end up in your dream (this is called day residue, when things you've seen/thought about during the day show in your dreams).
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I also noticed this, it's really weird. For me nothing of my daily life enters my dreams unless it's a constant for years, what get in my dreams from the day, is actually really really insignificant things, that by the time I go to bed are allready beyond the edge of oblivion.
